Sorry about the name typo. You said "bumb" twice in the same thread, so I assumed you weren't making a typo. Call me Captain Pedantic? if you must.

I used the stock TIM on mine. Now I'm thinking about pulling it back off, lapping both the heat sink and CPU's heat spreader. Then reinstalling with some Shin-Etsu thermal grease.

If you do this, it would be interested to know the before/after temp readings. I wish it didn't come with the thermal paste pre-applied. I already have my own.

Guess I'll wait for the next deal to come along.

heh, dont feel bad. I wasnt aware of the code and paid full shipping when I ordered mine.

the heatsink works great, except one of the clips on mine broke completely and another one is on its way out.

Does anyone know if there is a place where I could get spare clips cheap? My only option for now seems to be salvaging the pins from the retail HS... kinda easier said than done

You can pickup a backplate/screw set for an even more secure mounting option for around $5 bucks + shipping. I picked up a few sets from Twisted Hardware or SVC months back.

oops, thank you guys
sad how shipping is almost as much as the clip itself

EDIT: salvaging wasnt half as hard as I thought, just had to find a right tool to work with. broke one of them in the process, but needed only 2 to replace the broken ones.

Newegg is just playing the marketing game by raising & lowering the price and offering free shipping with the higher price. Anyone know of any better deal on this fan?

Well guys, I'm still trying to work out some kinks with my build. I bought a P35-DS3R off someone here and after only a week it stopped reading SATA drives. I have no idea what's going on with this board.

The other issue I'm having is that the northbridge heatsink, if pressed lightly, will come loose and move around. I'm wondering if that's how they're supposed to be and you're supposed to just not touch them, or if I got a bad board.

All of my northbridge heatsinks have been pretty securely stuck on, right out of the factory (that thermal adhesive pad is pretty sticky stuff). Enough so that I'd be able to pick up the entire board by holding just the northsink, with no wiggling at all. If I pull it off and replace the gunk with regular TIM, then it is noticeably less secure, and will come loose if prodded too hard.

I just discovered this heatsink on Newegg, and thanks to you guys, I have a new heatsink to recommend at the $20 price point.
How this cooler's fallen in between teh cracks and hasn't gotten noticed is beyond me.

Also, thanks for the information about this being a rebadged Akasa! Akasa's pretty hard to find here in the states, Rosewill rebadging their stuff is a pleasant surprise.

Anyone have results of this cooler vs. other tower heatsinks (other than Frostytech's review)?

I installed this this week, just put on Windows Pro x64 last night. I'll give an update when I do more testing. Using the pre-applied stuff now, may switch to AS5 depending on temps.

Probably because it's a Rosewill and thus only available at Newegg/ChiefValue.

Kind of a note on installing. It probably would be a better idea to install this with the motherboard outside of the case. It's not necessary but things can get tight.

It's difficult to tell if my temps are correct since the E8400 is known to report incorrect temps. What I can tell you is that the delta (change) from idle to load was very small. Normally only 3 or 4 Celsius.

Reported by Coretemp and by Speedfan, my E8400 was ~33 C, while clocked at 3.96Ghz at full load on Orthos for approx. 10 min. (just wanted to get a load temp). This is with their thermal paste, I haven't applied any AS5 to it.

Sorry for the thread revival.

Just wanted to post this new review (3-14-08) which includes a pic of the Heatsinks base.

Akaska 965 Base
"The copper base is flat but not polished"

It appears that it could benefit from a bit of lapping.

They also have a review of the Artic Cooling Freezer 7, and upon comparing the results from both articles, the Akaska 965 was 1 degree cooler. They also mention that both heatsinks have their fins spaced ~2mm apart, so they are very similar coolers.

As for running this cooler with a faster fan, I've tried using a 3000 RPM 92mm, a 2600 RPM 120mm fan, and a 127mm 110cfm ebm-papst fan, all with similar results as stock fan @ 100%. So it seems the limit of this cooler's ability to dissipate heat is around 50cfm's.

I came across this forum after a google search on this cooler. I can find hardly any info on it as there are no official reviews anywhere to be found. As others have said, it appears to be identical to the Akasa cooler -- the one in the top 10 at frostytech.

I just wanted to say that you CAN get it for AMD. I have a Brisbane core and ordered the AMD equivalent version. Model #: RCX-Z940-LX

Here it is at newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835200036

$14.99 + shipping = $21.99

If this thing cools as good as everyone says, it is truly a diamond in the rough. For the price, I am shocked it doesn't get more attention.
