Rossman seal of approval for this item ?

Rossman,

Has your view of Kodak digital cameras changed of recent ? I know you thought poorly of them a while back, particularly in comparison to the Cannons.

A friend is interested in this one:

Kodak EasyShare DX6490 Digital Camera

The review he looked at is:

Do you think that Kodak may have gotten its act together and produced a winner with this one ?
Or would Fuji or Cannon still be the preferred cameras, from your perspective.

the best sight i've found for digital camera info is

they have the Kodak DX6490 user rated 4/5 stars.

however, you neeed to compare it to other cameras in the same price range.

i would agree that canon makes the best digital cameras at the present time.
i own a leica (35mm) which i consider the best film camera made,
i've bought the wife and kids canon digital cameras, because i consider them the best.

canon has pretty much got a camera at each "price point" that beats out the competition...

Steves Digicam's liked the unit overall but said some of the performance results were a "mixed bag".

Although from the sample pics I think this camera is far better than the other Kodak digicams out there and is definitely a step in the right direction for kodak, I wouldn't get this camera myself...especially not at that price. I'm going to agree and say that Canon pretty much is the industry leader for now with the only real challenge from maybe Nikon and to a lesser extent Fuji/Olympus.

After all...Canon is the company with the 11 megapixel 1Ds...which although obviously not anywhere even close to this price range, establishes that they have the key technology needed for digital cameras....plus on the lower end they have the rather astounding Digital Rebel now...which itself is very impressive.

But this is still better than other Kodaks...and I do hope that Kodak manages to catch up in the digital camera field...poor Kodak's been suffering bad(I'm in Rochester, NY right now and when Kodak suffers Rochester suffers).

It depends on what you mean by "industry leader." By market share, Sony is #1. If you want to talk about technologies, well, I will not get into that discussion, as it is purely subjective.

Question - what's wrong woth Kodak digicams and what makes Rossman an authority on the subject? I happened to own DC3200 and DX3600 and both were very nice cameras in their time.

I agree with Rossman, Kodak digicams really do suck. I find Canons VERY good. Why Kodak's suck? I really don't know other than the pictures that I take with them tend to be not as sharp and vibrant as Canons. Can't be because of shaky hands because I use the super small canons! hehe
