A week and a half of ibuprofen and rest, and my knee felt great today! sometimes you have to listen to your body and let it have a rest. now I feel like I could go to the gym or ride a recumbent stationary bike.
That's fantastic that you were able to get your knee back to normal so quickly! Perhaps I need to take a little more ibuprofen to help get the inflammation down in my shoulders. I've been trying to get by taking as little as possible, so I've just been taking 200mg in the morning when my shoulders feel truly abysmal. I'm larger than average (6'2" 230lbs), so maybe taking more might be prudent? I'd imagine not being able to truly rest my shoulders and avoid the physical stress from lifting stuff might slow recovery a bit as well.

1. Don't do things that F-up your joints.
2. Rely on physical therapists instead of surgeons.
Sound advice, I think. I'll definitely be more mindful of not doing stuff that might mess up my joints now that I'm dealing with a joint mobility/health issue. If only I'd known that what I was going to do would lead me here before I'd done it...

Back almost 30 years ago we had cable in the house. I was getting into weight lifting and the body building aspect fascinated me (plus I was hitting the weigh room 7 day/week, swam 2 miles after each 1.5 hour session too!). I would watch all the ESPN weightlifting instructional programs, tape them on my VCR. There was an extensive series featuring then Mr. Olympia, Lee Haney (8 years, running, Schwarzeneger did that too, 8 years). Lee was fantastic, had a great personality. He said one particular thing that I've never forgotten. He said he'd learned from "the older guys" to be especially cognizant of taking care of your joints (particularly as you get older). Now, I was already almost 50.

Another real ripe thing comes to mind:

When I had my small handful of appointments with the one shoulder MD (surgeon) in my region for my HMO Kaiser Permanente less than a year ago, we were talking about recovery strategies. He made a one word statement, followed by silence to emphasize the significance: "Circulation!"

I take that to mean maintaining excellent cardio-vascular fitness is fundamental in regard to your healing capabilities. My words! His, "Circulation!"

It's been 4 weeks his shoulder's like watching paint dry compared to the first one. I can easily overdo the smallest thing.

Took a month before I was even out of the sling. Then PT that started with just hanging my arm straight down and making small circles. The diameters of those circles gradually increased and I graduated to other PT activities. I was about your age then, TYPE IV SLAP lesion, arthroscopically repaired.

Hope you have a good PT. Good luck!

I didn't sleep much last night, I got (hopefully) bursitis in my elbow from the sling and the pillows. The alternative would be an infection!

Your seeing a good doctor, I hope. Infection would require an Rx for antibiotics, I would suppose. Not something to mess around with. Good luck!

I got to see the same PA who probably left the stitches out so I would say the jury's out on good.

it's a much slower process than the first shoulder I'm probably at 60% and that's being generous.
the day-to-day pain is not a problem, it's the lack of power up high.
