It always bugged me that they didn't get airmail service from the eagles from day 1. Fly over, drop, plop, melt, game over Sauron. Could have been "there and back again" in 2 days.

It wouldn't have been much of a story that way, and the flying Nazgul would have killed the eagles before they ever got to Mordor.

I thought the nazgul were the flying beasts that carried the ring wraiths.

Edit: Gollum killed his brother in the beginning of the movie.

Tolkien could have written all about the wind currents, and the stopoffs they made along the way to eat giant worms, and all kinds of fun details.

RingWraiths is another name for the Nazgul.
