its reasonably accurate being that it takes a lot of reviews and creates a grade from that. plus u can read the positive and negative reviews and make your mind up off that if u don't trust the number and really want to see something its not so hard. its a tool, a very good one. and it shows how powerful the net is, imagine before rottentomatoes, ur access to reviews just plain sucked and getting a real idea of whether a film is worth watching was a lot harder. i do disagree with some of the higher rated oscar bait films. like the boring and pretentious syriana and such.

I see your point, but I still prefer an average rating score listed prominently with unquantifiable ratings like the NYT's left out. I'll have to start looking for the average rating number from now on - somehow I never noticed before you pointed it out.

I don't read reviews. If i want to see the movie, i see it. If i don't, i don't. I don't need someone else's opinion on it...i just don't care.

I like metacritic.com much better. The user reviews are sometimes better at giving you an idea of how good the movie is. But, its often the case that you like a movie that was review poorly by critics and users. I usually just read the synopsis of a movie and if it sounds interesting Ill watch it.
