Be upset, frustrated, whatever emotion you want... get a raging hard-on full of lust - I dont care.

I'm just offering my view of the game, it starts slow, but once you're introduced to the full combat system, its possibilities and the story line it created a very engaging game (for me anyway).

No No and I value your opinion. It was totally shocking that 5 hours in... Comes the "Multiple Foe" tutorial.

Is that the last nuance/tutorial? I was in support of your position re the "pushing X for 5 or 6 hours" as I think my last save was 5 hours and 20 minutes.
USUALLY I am SLOW and SOOOO far behind the norm.
I am old and a newbie console gamer so I "turtle" more than normal.

I will NEVER share how long it took me to beat KOTOR 1 and or Half Life 2 (both on PC) as I am a turtle!!!!!!!! Hunker down.... Go slow. Pick off where you can and move slow and SAVE often. (FF 13 has FOILED me there LOL Save SPOTS. DAMN THEM!!!!)

I actually belly laughed at several segments of your reply. I do feel a bit better. Thank you.

The upgrade thing? WHEN?
I have paradigms. And they aint complicated. I love'em. I make customs and make Hope or Vanille a pure Medic in one of them. So far.... Battles are a breeze.
I thought "upgrade" thing would be avail at the save stations as I read on the internet.
I saved this AM and no such option appeared. I am worried to sell stuff lol...

If I recall, you have to get a special item before you are allowed to upgrade at the save stations. I don't remember exactly which one, but I think you get it automatically at some point in the story. Once you get the item, the game gives you a message about upgrading, and the "UPGRADE" option shows up at the save stations.

Meanwhile, don't sell anything.

Just to clarify, I AM enjoying the game at this point, and will likely finish it. Right now I'm on Gran Pulse, and rather than ***SPOILER ALERT***
go back to Cocoon
, I chose to backtrack to the wide open spaces and do a bunch of Cieth Stone missions. Chocobos!

Just BEAT that HUGE mech thingy this AM and got the upgrade kit! So you were SPOT on. Thank you. YES, the game is GRABBING me so far.
What I DONT like is the "Save" warning in the manual.
Some items will DECREASE the XP bounus on your items.
So, as the "Upgarde" in XP bonus was a plesant surprise, I presume the downgrade will be as well. Is there some form of Logic to using items to upgrade?
Right now I presume if I do my next upgrade with inferior parts (like a million chipped fangs) I presume my bonus factor will go down. Which bodes POORLY for me as I used all "HI QUALITY" stuff for the first set of upgrades....

So far, loving the game.

From what I've read online, you can get three different types of components. If you sort your component inventory by category, you'll only see three different types of icons in front of each item. Basically, there are organic, mechanical, and "special" components.

There are 3 tiers for each weapon.

Use organic components (which typically only provide small amounts of XP) to increase the item XP multiplier to a maximum of 3. Then use mechanical components (which provide high xp) to level the item. Depending on the weapon, the maximum level is around 21 to 28. Once your weapon hits maximum level, an asterisk appears next to the name.

Now use a special component to transform the weapon (the name will change and the stats will decrease) to a Tier 2 weapon. Level up the new weapon (and the maximum stats will be higher than the Tier 1 weapon).

Repeat for a Tier 3 weapon.

At least one guide I read claimed that you should use as many components at the same time as you can, to maximize the XP (i.e. using 10 chipped fangs at once will yield more XP than using 1 chipped fang 10 times).

I have maxed out Tier 2 weapons for Fang, Vanille, and Sazh so far. I have not yet found the special component that will let me transform the weapons to Tier 3.

I platinum trophied this, as a HUGE FF fanboy I loved it.

Uh Oh.... Is there an "End Game" rating? This is my FIRST FF game and I wondered what the scores and the stars mean after each battle.
Sooooooooooooooo, those "Zero Star" battles; they gonna come back and bite me in the tush?
Some of them are weird. I take LONGER than the "Estimated Time", I get 3 or 4 stars.
I do a 40 second battle in 38 seconds. ZERO stars.

Its Bizarre. Those battles (2 this AM) I have Lightning REALLY jacked up and I let her "have at it". She is with Hope right now (Please tell me that kid finds the velcro for his testicles. I KNOW he is a kid and all but DUDE, youre killing me) and I never used Paridigm to swap him to Medic as Lightning was a "Ginsu Knife" with the bad guys.

Zero stars LOL. SURE, I had a sliver left of health. But she had it all under conntrol.

lol, don't worry. The stars (iirc) just determine how much of your TP you regain after the battle. The only time you'll really want 5 stars is to get a trophy (or gamerpoints for 360) by 5-starring all of the cie'th stone missions in endgame.

There is no culminated score at the end. Just a ton of stuff to do (I logged 122 hours in total to get a full clear of everything with all the trophies and unlockables).

Hope... Unfortunately never gets cool, but he's one of the stronger characters for endgame stuff so you'll learn to deal with and appreciate him ^_^

As NomarFachix stated, your "star score" counts toward your TP points. Also, I've read that it also determines the chance of getting an item (e.g. a component) or a rare item.

LOL MAN... He is getting worse.... And now Lightning is Coddling him. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ok... I will say he's a kid he's a kid. Work with him.

And Vanillie..... ITS SO WRONG. Really.

My total time play is off. I thing its WRONG when I am reviewing the datalog and such the clock is ticking. I will admit for the first 5 days of playing. I used Y as a pause button. Once I went away for a Bio Break and a diet pepsi. 32 mins LOL.

Small Update. NO, this has NOT kept my interest like ME1, but I will finish. I spent about an hour scouring the internet last night for my problem. What did I learn? There is a LOT of conflicting info out there.

I am in my first set of series of fights with Fang and Lightning as partners. Up till now, what I attack, the group attacks. NOT SO with these two in my party. Lightning and Hope go off and do their own thing.
I have read EVERYTHING from not having Fang and Light be commandos in the same paridigm..... I have read NEVER put Light as a ravenger. I have read its random, which I dont believe. I read its not random, its two Alpha chicks in the same party so its to be expected.

I have EVEN gone so far as to do one round, Maybe two..... And I switch to whatever Light and Hope are fighting. But DAMN... I swear they switch off again. I am in the Hope's dad's house and I believe that the keep spawning the EASY enemies so I can learn HOW to focus attacks. But I have tried MULTPILE paridigms and have had zero success. And spennding an hour on the internet to find confilciting info. Frustrating.

Can someone share the secret please?

The secret is that FF13 sucks and you shouldn't play it.

Actually it's not much of a secret anymore; most non-FF fanatics who've played it agree that it's a terrible game.

Thanks for making me spit coffee out on my keyboard with a hardy laugh....... YEAH.. I got that AFTER purchase.

Which FF game should I get to get the FLAVOR? I know all games are on rails.....
But cripes.... Every map is a tunnel/channel...... With an ocasional side SHORT tunnel for one of those floating treasure balls.

After this, I am diving into ME2, but would like to hear what FF game I should get.

Thanks in advance... Ummm And original question still stands.... secret or not

I suggest the next time you think about buying a FF, you punch yourself in the throat and save yourself some money.

I had that problem too.

Switched to have only ONE commando per paradigm -> Everybody attacks the same target.

Lightning makes a great Ravager in my opinion. Fang is the best commando.

Eh, no they may have a linear story, or linear progression, but not on rails. On rails would be like FF13, when you go down tunnels most of the game.

If you want something with good flavor, I would go with FF4 or FF6. I would play FF4 first.

FF7 was good too, though it does have some on-rails, tunnel places, because it uses 2D pre-rendered backgrounds for you to go through. But only some of the game is like that, not everything, like FF13.

In either case, be prepared for random-encounter grinding.

If you want to play the best JRPG ever, play Chrono Trigger. Its almost perfect, on an absolute scale, not just compared to other JRPG's.

AWESOME.... PARIDIGM CHANGES TONIGHT!
Thank you!

I agree with your assesments. Fang does OWN. Bad news is I recently dismantled her initial weap (which was upgraded to level 3) and I have her with a really cool weap but its still level one. I may have to visit "Creature Comforts" and buy 20 fangs to get some XP bonus perks.

Any tips for that friggin behemouth (Spelling?) tank that show up after Hope's Dad's house?

Talk about OWNAGE! WOW.

Bad syntax grammer on my part. I was trying to make a point that while all games HAVE to be on rails to a point, I NEVER felt that way in ME1. It is my SECOND fave game ever jsut a SMIDGE behind the first KOTOR for the PC.

I think I beat ya! By a smidge. I bought ME1 and ME2 and got FF13 as a freebie.....

(I found the receipt last night. Buy 2 used games get one free. NOT buy 1 get 2 as I had posted earlier My bad.)

So for 25 I got ME1 ME2 and FF13. (they were 10 15 and 10 in order)

Searching for "9" during lunch break as that seems to be the popular vote around town. But will have to IMPORT my toon from "1" to "2" next.
I need more ME period. Maybe some DLC!

The story is worth playing through, despite the 80% linear world you're in. The good thing is you don't need to be uber powerful to beat all the bosses so you can get through the story relatively quickly. The best video game story I've experienced in awhile and I'm not a huge FF fanboy.

I'm a Final Fantasy fanboy through and through, and even I thought this game was absolutely terrible, and not just for a FF game...it was just pure terrible and doubly terrible for having the FF name associated with it.
