have anyone ever folded the cables in halfs or fourths, gently ofcourse no hardware involved, and put ties on
Well, the ribbons are in alternating data and ground wires, equally spaced from each other so that crosstalk is nearly eliminated. With rounded cables, they are twisted around each other in close proximity so that crosstalk could pose a problem. I've only seen comparos that are well within the margin of error however, and I have never had a performance issue with rounded cables. The theory I've heard on why rounded cables work okay is because there is a lot of headroom for the ECC to work without impacting performance much (because hard drives don't use much bandwidth). Take it as you will, but ribbon cables are not required. Mission critical machines should remain with ribbons though.Originally posted by: creedog
How are rounded cables slower? I don't see the science in that.

you wont notice a difference in speed, get round cables. They look better and they get better airflow

if you fold ribbon cables right, they allow WAY better airflow than round cables.

Are these cables as good as the stock ones, i'm thinking that for a few bucks i can have more room in my case, still trying to figure out which case there is only 256MB of them to chose from. thanks
