Router and Smart tv issues

I bought a Samsung smart tv 50" and have a 45mbps isp.

Router : Asus Rt N-12 C1 support upto 300mbps 802.11b/g/n
modem : DCM thomas 476

Apps like youtube and Netflix seem to work flawlessly without any buffering on HD resolution if I connect my tv directly to the modem itself using ethernet cable. Ive also tested the connection on speedtest on my smart tv's browser and is giving a DL speed of 40mbps.

Using the smart tv with my router is resulting in buffering on those apps and speedtest shows DL speed upto 18 mbps.

The connection is not under load on other devices i.e laptop / computer...

Note : Modem / router / smart tv are next to each other side-by-side. Router gives a speed of 42mbps on my laptop using speedtest.net

When you have the router connected, are you still using a wired connection from the TV or is it wireless at that point? If it is wireless, try using an ethernet cable to see if you get the same results.

When the router is connected, do other devices (computer/tablet/phone/etc) have trouble streaming video as well, or is it only the TV?

No buffering on laptop but a bit buffering on smartphone/tablets...

and when the router is connected, the connection is wireless to the tv, ill try wired. BTW I have updated the firmware of my router to see if that makes any difference/

Well, there's your problem. Likely just a crappy wifi adapter in the TV and/or poor location compared to the router. Wireless can only do so much and it is a poor substitute for wired access. If you can run a wire to the TV from the router, ALWAYS do that.

UPDATE : Just updated the router's STOCK firmware and things have taken a significant twist. Everythings fine now, no more buffering
