I have a router that does not detect one of my computers when the lan cable is plugged in. my 2 other computers are detected even when these are powered off. The problem computer is detected by the router when it is powered up. Would 6this indicate an isssue with the power supply or mother board?

If it works fine when the computer is turned on, that simply indicates the computer is turning the NIC off completely when it's powered off. If you're needing this computer to have an active network connection when it's powered off, make sure wake on lan is turned on in the BIOS.

ok so i checked in the bios wake on lan is enabled but the network connection is not active with computer off. I am wondering now if the power supply is faulty somehow?

i only notice the LAN is not active when the computer is shut down but still connected to the router by LAN cable. I think, possibly, the +5vSB rail is not working or not coming on. This is not a huge problem for me but rather one that I noticed and have wondered why.

'Tis a puzzlement. Is there another computer in the LAN that can keep it open? If yours is the only one, then when it is off there is no active PC that can keep the LAN alive. I see no problem here.

Yeah this is not a show stopper but more of a wonder why. I have 3 computers plugged to the same router, the router has an indicator light to show when the lan cable is plugged in..it has this behavior for 2 but not the third one which is why i asked the question initially. My theory is the +5vSB(standby) is not working somehow. But its not a huge problem.
