It is a 2-wire 2700HG-B. I currently have a PC and a VOIP phone connected to it. I bought a laptop a few weeks ago and turned on the wireless. I returned the laptop because I wasn't happy with it and went into the router to turn off the wireless. I noticed that other people had been using the wireless connection while it was active, there were a bunch of laptops, Ipods etc. that were showing up in my home network. There's a school behind me so I would imagine the kids there were using their wireless devices (I thought I turned on some sort of protection but I guess not).

I went through all the computers that showed up in the firewall settings and changed them all to maximum protection including my PC (I don't know what possessed me to do this). From then on the only way I can connect to the internet is to set the firewall to DMZplus which I gather is not a good idea. Originally I had the firewall set up to allow port forwarding for BT and I tried configuring it back that way and it won't work either.

I noticed that when I set my PC to maximum protection the Router does not assign it an IP address so I think the problem is related to that but I really can't figure out how to get it to assign an address.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Uhm, set everything back to defaults and start over?

I've reset the firewall to default and it changes everything on the network to maximum protection. The computer doesn't get assigned an address and it can no longer connect to the internet. I have to set it to DMZplus to get a connection.

Are you talking about a software firewall on the PC, or some firewall feature of the router? On my Westell 327W, I disable the firewall. If your router has a "reset" button on the back, try holding that down for 30 seconds. Possibly even when powering on the router, if holding it down while it's powered on doesn't do anything.

You might need to re-enter your ISP info at that point, but it would reset the router to factory defaults. Which is probably what you want here.
