Router or hub for small home network

Currently i have 2 win xp PCs conected with a crossover cable and using win XP internet connection sharing.
Now I need to add 1 Labtop to my network(it already has a network card). How should I go about it? Will it be enough if i get a 4 port hub, or will I need a router? I don't ming leaving the "main" PC on (its on all the time anyways).
Which is the chepeast/easier to configure/faster way?

Get a router - usually has a built in firewall.
Most routers come with built in switches (kinda like a hub - but faster). Check the number of ports in the back.
So in most cases, one router will be enough.

I now have a software firewall (Norton 2003), and sometimes I need to adjust it, or turn it off entirely. Will the routers firewall be as flexible?

Router's Firewall won't be as stringent as you software firewall.
I don't have experience with Norton, but Zone Alarm uses program-access controls which tells the software firewall which programs are allowed to access the network.

the router's firewall only usually denies access from the internet to your computer by closing most ports (except a few, like port 80 for web, 225,...).
With the suggested SMC Barricade router can actually decide which ports to open up again (or what port range to open up) via an online-wizard. You can use this for a virtual server / gaming / ...

I have both and use them together (router & software firewall) - I think they complement each other fairly well. Whatever hack attempt is able to get through the router is blocked by my software
