I have the Roxio version that burns DVDs and the Nero cd-burner version.

I like the fact that Roxio adjusts the burn speed automatically. The DVD video maker software is kind of frustrating. Roxio has a good "burn selected files to multiple disks" feature. It's still kind of squirlley (sp?) though.

Personally, I prefer Nero. I'm not sure why. I like the interface more for one - I guess I'd compare the Roxio look to Windows XP and Nero to Windows 2000. It allows you to backup a disc to a Nero image, which is good because it lets you do it, but bad because it's proprietary Nero format, not the standard iso.

I don't think you need a product code/key to operate these... but maybe that's the difference of which I am ignorant?

I prefer Nero too. But maybe I am mistaken...

Last year I bought for my old comp (win2000) Cendyne CD-RW which came with Nero 5.7
This year installed on another comp (xp) Roxio 6 that was in package with MicroAdvantage CD-RW.
My stereo (Aiwa, made in 2001) doesn't play CDs written with Roxio on MicroAdvantage but plays all CDs written with Nero on Cendyne.
What fail - MicroAdvantage or Roxio, I can't tell.

Now I am looking for proper driver for Nero to install it on xp comp instead of Roxio, and see if Roxio is the reason...

I don't have much experience using Roxio for burning. However, I've used Nero for the past few years and it's worked like a charm. Roxio came with an IO MagicSpin DVD+/-R/RW drive and I haven't even bothered installing it. But hey, for those who prefer to use Roxio, $15 is not bad.

Full retail was on sale at Fry's for $49-$20 Upg MIR = $29, so when the price drops like that (without the usual $10,000 in additional rebates), my guess is that Roxio 7 is just about to come out.
