Roxio's Easy Media Creator 7 or Nero 6?

I use Nero all the time, but I'm going to buy Nero 6 Ultra or Easy Media Creator 7 when I buy this NEC ND-3500A on Monday. Tell me, which do you guys prefer? I've always been a little curious about what other anandtech posters use. I like nero (have never used 6 though!), but a friend uses that and it looked pretty good too. Both excellent products, eh?

Yeah i've never had problems with Nero, never used the other stuff however.

I use roxio 6/7

6 came with my DVD Burner ao i used it its nice and i liek it, upgraded to 7 and its still great
you dont have to install all the other crap that comes with it

and nero 6 install a bunch of useless stuff also that needs uninstalling

Nero seems to be the most popular, & i prefer it over Roxio.

It has a slight learning curve though, so for a beginner who's not doing much advaced stuff, Roxio may be an easier program to use.
Also, i've seen/heard more complaints about Roxio not doing what people want it to than with Nero.

You can't get any simpler than Nero Express.

You can't get any simpler than Nero Express.

Yeah true...my post was meant to come across as unbiased...but really, Nero > Roxio by a landslide if you want my honest opinion :laugh:

Norton just takes up too much system resource in comparison to some of the alternatives (refering to the home products, not corporate)

i only install part of the nero package in order to eliminate bloat and turn the smart start or whatever that new thing they have in the new version off.

ive never understood that norton arguement, 2003 is currently useing about 6 megs sitting in my system tray ait autoprotect on

yea smart start pissed me off also, i also choose not to install teh bloat with both nero and roxio
i like roxios Power Rec feature and it lets me burn 4x DVD media at 8X with no issues, nero wouldent let me do that,

only thing i dont like about Roxio is that when i burn MP3 CDs the order is all messed up, it will alphabatize the files no matter what order you put them in, Nero does not do that, and subsequently thats teh only thing i use nero for

screenshot of the full task manager? Some proccesses are named differantly than what you might expect.

NAV 2005

takes up about 33mb without the program open, only autoprotect

Nero uses 25+ when burning
photoshop will use a gig if i let it

this is why i have 1.5 gigs of ram so stuff can use it

There are few slogans that were invented at the time that Hard Drives were 10MB and Ram of 1MB.

Since then ?Macho Nets? keep using the slogans again and again like nothing changed in the World.

Yeah, with 200GB Hard drive and 1GB RAM I worry about BloatWare, and skip using a good piece of software.

I just got an OEM NEC3500A burner from Newegg - with no software.

I bought the Nero 6 OEM Suite. It doesn't have all features of Nero 6 Ultra (of course), but it has all you'll need for basic CD & DVD burning.

$10 shipped, license included - absolutely legal.
