What is up with Alabama?

Roy Moore has been twice removed from office for cause.

Now the folks in Alabama have voted him to contest the US Senate seat that Jefferson B. Sessions vacated.

Wow, just wow!

Because republicans don't actually give a shit about anything they claim to care about. End of story.
Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but it looking like more and more everyday that the Republicans are pushing to turn the US into a theocracy.

Republicans hate ISIS but idolize every one of their beliefs. Also ISIS couldn't come close to destroying the US as much as republicans do.

I have read some Christen Reconstructest and Dominion material a while back and it is a real eye opener. Those guys are hyper-Calvinist who are modern day Puritans.

Guess I'll get to vote against Moore at one more time this year. Hopefully not for a third time as a Democrat probably has no chance. There'll be a run off election between Roy Moore and Luther Strange for the Republican Primary.

Both times for telling the Federal Government to !@#$ off. That and religion pretty much sums up Alabama.
The religion due to intense and widespread poverty.
The spite due to 1865.

Seems to me that both Islamism and Trumpism are what you get when intense conservatism collides with change. When people speak of Islamist terrorism vs right-wing terrorism it's a bit odd because Islamists _are_ right-wing. I've never met one who was a supporter of gay marriage, for example. But conservatism isn't identical to violent radicalism, rather it's that the latter is a product of the former.

There are obvious similarities between the two parallel trends, even including the contribution from a particular mixture of privilege and disadvantage (though the two are in different proportions in each case, I think).

I sometimes think it's fortunate for the rest of us that the two forces can't get on, or realise how much they agree about, or we'd really be in trouble.

Alabama, American's own little Iran, having to chose between Dumb and Dumber. Gee, that's too bad!

The fact that Moore is still relevant in local politics there says a lot about Alabama, and none of it good. Will not be surprised at all if he wins as it's the most backwards, racist, ignorant state I've ever visited. Also won't be surprised if it turns out Mr. Anti Gay Marriage is another Ted Haggard.

Hey now, we're not the most backwards, racist, ignorant state...

It's at least a 4-way Battle Royale between Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri and West Virginia.

Yeah, I stand corrected. No way I can dispute Mississippi's heavyweight status there.

What a choice for Alabama.

A religious whack job of a lawyer can't be bothered to follow the law and had to be removed from office twice or Trump's favorite.

Remember, if you buy a Mercedes, Honda, or Hyundai, it may be made by one of these morons.

And what is the most important aspect of these companies being down thar? Right to work states. No place to even get started on a union.

Not having to worry about heating costs in winter counts for a lot too I hear.

Umm, you do know it gets cold in the winter in AL, even all the way down to the Gulf.

$300+ electric or $200+ for natural gas for two months is no joke.

You're thinking of South Florida.

Here's the thing... he was removed twice for what some Christians see as "defending the cause". So, while most would look at his track record as a negative thing, they likely see it as a good thing that shows that he will uphold "traditional Christian values" during his Senate tenure. As someone else mentioned, these people would really prefer a theocracy, and while they don't really use those words per say, it's more or less that they want their morality upheld. (It's really the same thing.)
