RPG Recommendations?

It's been years since I've played a RPG on the computer other then Everquest. I have Witcher I picked up awhile back but other then that I'm not sure what RPG's are worth playing that have a good storyline.

The last RPG I bought that was new was Diablo2. Many games out there I missed. What would everybody recommend?

Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur's Gate II, Neverwinter Nights... pretty much anything BioWare would do it, except maybe MDK2? I think it's the only game they've made that isn't an RPG, but it still kicks ass. I would also recommend Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3, they're more action-RPG but still, they're quite good anyway, with Morrowind having the best story in my humble opinion.

Torment actually has a better story than BG2, but its older and doesn't have the larger fan base as BG2 so it has further mods and additions to smooth its wrinkles.

Neverwinter Nights 2 with the first expansion isn't bad.

Fallout 3 is excellent and new so no tweaking needed.

Oh, and since you seem to like Diablo you'll most likely like Titan Quest. Awesome Diablo 2 clone with much better graphics.

KOTOR 2 -- the ending is weak but the journey to it is very worthwhile.

Neverwinter Nights 2 and the Mask of the Betrayer and Mysteries of Westgate add-ons.

I have a feeling this game gets bypassed by quite a few people. I've only completed about ~60% of the game, but have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't yet. Do download one of the community patches though. Either the True 5.04AT patch, or the newer, and more often updated Wesp? patch, currently at version 6.4 I believe. With the wesp patch, just install the fixes, not the "plus" or "bonus" parts of the patch, as I understand that it alters the original game somewhat significantly if you do.

+1 for KOTOR, one of my favorite games. Also KOTOR2, but the game was rushed and the ending was weak.

Also, lots of people like Neverwinter Nights 2 and its expansions. NWN2 was OK for me but didnt like it well enough to play the expansions.

Edit: Guess I should have read all the posts carefully. All these games have already been suggested, but I will second the recommendations. I also liked Titan Quest a lot, but I never really thought of it as an RPG.

BTW, I am rather disappointed with recent RPGs except for Mass Effect. Too much blood and gore and zombie killing for me. It seems like MMOs (which I refuse to play) are taking over.

Mass Effect is great but you can beat it in a day. A good day mind you.

Gothic 1, Gothic 2 + expansion, and Gothic 3 but only with the latest and last Community Patch 1.72.

The Gothic Universe is one of the very best and the story line runs throughout. Even though G1 is old the graphics are still good and the story line is excellent. G2 is even a better game and 3 has one of the biggest world I have eve played in and the most beautiiful.

Make sure you start with G1.

I found a copy of that a while ago at Gamestop. I haven't had the time for it, but from whta I've heard it seems like a great experience.

It's one of those games I'm trying to save a whole free weekend for.

The first expansion follows directly from the end of the OC and is actually noticably better. You should try it.
