The Witcher and Two Worlds. Both have pretty good story lines and interesting worlds to explore. The Witcher is kinda linear but with a good story and interesting combat where as Two Worlds is wide open and explorer friendly. Two Worlds while not great is a good game. You can burglarize peoples houses, have multiple mounts, and the armor is the best I have ever seen in a game. There are thousands of combinations of armor each with a unique and interesting look. You can find it for cheap on Steam or in stores.

Kotor 1&2 are great as well along with all the other Bioware games. Morowind and Oblivion are also top notch.

I have that game and remember starting to get into it, if I recall it was very much a 'free roaming' style game. It's been a while, but I think the reason I grew tired of that game was that the average battle seemed to last forever. I think I still have the CD's laying around, maybe I'll play it again some day.

I guess you didn't read the OP.

Or the thread title for that matter

So I'm not the only one confused by that suggestion.

I'm going to start with finishing Witcher and Oblivian. Then since I never gave BG2 a try I'll go with that and possible the icewid dale games + neverwinter nights.

Seems like 6-8 months of gaming or so .

I appreciate all the suggestions and now I have a list of games to buy once I catch up.

If you play baldur's gate 2 I highly reccomend getting the baldur's gate 'Tutu' mod. It allows you to play baldur's gate 1 in the baldur's gate 2 engine.

But for that you must have baldur's gate 1 + expansion + baldur's gate 2 + expansion.

There is a thread about it on page 2 or 3 right now with a list of the order of installation.

The thing is with Baldur's gate... number 2 isn't really an expansion.. it's a continuation of of #1. Probably the most epic thorough game in existance. You can however play #2 without number 1 first. But you get more feeling of epicness if you play through both.

I also highly reccomend Planescape Torment. Definatly with the widescreen mod. It is an amazing game and in the same vein as bg1+2. Baldur's Gate is what made Bioware; Bioware.

There newest game Mass Effect which was previously mentioned is an amazing game as well. And they are soon to release a game caleld Dragon Age which looks really good.

You will want to note, when Bioware made Neverwinter Nights it wasn't necessarily for the story or the gameplay.. Neverwinter Nights was about being able to make your own world and be a dungeon master.. So as far as gameplay goes it is not even close to par with their other games. But they did something with NWN that to date has not been accomplished before. I suggest NWN1 over NWN2 due to the higher quality of online worlds and mods. Nwn2 wasn't made by BIoware, it was licensed to Obsidian who used the game engine for there own game. The nwn2 toolset was bugged to hell so you wont see as many good online worlds or mods as in nwn1.

I fourth the Vampire:TMB suggestion.

Although that kinda goes downhill after the first half or so, the initial bit is quite good. I really should replay as a Malkavian sometime.

The last RPG I bought that was new was Diablo2. Many games out there I missed. What would everybody recommend?

The best vampire story ever is in the Legacy of Kain games, which regrettably are only ported to the PC. I wouldn't bother with Legacy of Kain 2, tho, as it's non-canon. Stick to Legacy of Kain 1, Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, and Legacy of Kain: Defiance.

Not much, unless you count SNES and PS1 emulators. Then grab yourself Final Fantasy 4 through 6 (don't bother with any FF game after 6) and Xenogears.

Even the best PC RPGs don't hold a candle to the console classics in terms of story, and thats the cold hard truth from a PC gamer.

I have a feeling this game gets bypassed by quite a few people. I've only completed about ~60% of the game, but have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't yet. Do download one of the community patches though. Either the True 5.04AT patch, or the newer, and more often updated Wesp? patch, currently at version 6.4 I believe. With the wesp patch, just install the fixes, not the "plus" or "bonus" parts of the patch, as I understand that it alters the original game somewhat significantly if you do.

I love this game.
The ending was blah but you have so much fun getting there.
