It's always normally with some pendings in SETI, a quick look shows 1296 for me... Hmm, if the pendings is anything to go by, petrusbroder should have at least 10x higher production than me during the race...
(Quote abbreviated by petrusbroder)

Yes, that is about right: your current RAC is approx 480 (and rising) and my is approx. 5140 (and rising). Until a week ago you produced some 250 - 500 credits/day, while I have produced some 3 500 - 5 500 credits/day. Your production is rising (for the past 4 days) and so is mine (for the past 4 days). Although the pending credits also depend on the other crunchers ... the more they crunch the less pending we will have.

Brown pins isn't the only reason decided against trying to keep the system running any longer. It has for a long time been "temparamental", with refusing to boot/re-boot on 1st. try, and every time adds/removes anything it seems to land in infinite re-boot-loop that has only been fixed by resetting bios...

The dodgy power connection will be the cause of that ,I had that with an old PSU and a skt A mbrd some yrs ago ,could never work out why testing the ATX plug with a multimeter would fix it ,until I eventually unplugged it & saw the brown socket/plug

Funny you mention a weak 5v line ,my landladies PC also has an Antec ,a TP 380 ,the 1st the 5v line went weak causing random HDD resets ,now just over a year or so latter the 2nd one's 5v line has gone weak too!:| ,~4.5v.I'm not going bother to RMA it this time at a cost of ~£20!.

Also, while haven't looked closely on SETI-times, in Seasonal Attribution the old used 60 s/TS; while the new uses 22 s/TS
What's that?

Well, how many of these "stable", overclocked systems craps-out in the middle of a CPDN-model...
Depends how well their tested

........err anyway we're going a bit OT

Back to race related stuff ,I've borrowed a mates Q6600 & is now crunching in my main rig
Pitty I can't get it over 2.6GHz whereas my C2D can do 3.2GHz (higher FSB too).
Still ,lots more output for at least a week ,maybe longer

Mark, you are a honor to your handle: Assimilator1!

Back OnTopic:
A Q6600 crunching with 4 cores is much better than a C2D at a higher speed - at least if my math is correct. I'll have to do something about my computer parts ... :Q

that's pretty amazing when you consider that our entire TeAm output was only about 100k before the buzz leading up to the race...

this is crazy, I've been in the top 10 seti RAC for a while now and I'm #11 in gauntlet! This is definitely a nice problem to have, some of you guys should stick around with us for a while after the race is over

If you open that PSU up, you'll find the DC filter capacitors will be stuffed (leaking/dried out).
I've re-capped two older Antec PSU's after they displayed exactly the same fault, my TP380 with a dodgy 5v rail and a TC550 with a dodgy 12v rail.
After replacing the caps on the TP380, it's been happily powering a E6750/8800GTS system for a couple of months now
If you're able to get a hold of some suitable replacement low ESR caps and a soldering iron (or a mate with one), they're not too hard to replace

I'm seeing something bizarre on my Opty 175, using the 2.4 SSE2 AMD stuff from lunatics.at

Whenever a WU starts, it seems to report the processor speed(s) but mine are varying wildly. I'm guessing it's just a bug, but I'm curious if anyone else is seeing this.

examples:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu...php?resultid=650183097
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu...php?resultid=650762947
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu...php?resultid=650587278 (accurate, for ONE core)
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu...php?resultid=650096779

Weird...

Actually, on the box I just referenced I *am* using Crunch3r's 2.4V application. I mis-spoke, though I am using it with a "stock" 5.10.20 client. I've got a bunch of WU's cached on this box, so is it worth it to do a full re-install to 5.9.0 app in this case? I'd hate to do that and risk a re-send of "lost" WU's as I've seen a few times with the optimized clients...

is the 64-bit version really faster? that would be interesting to know, you never hear of a 64bit app being significantly faster.

I moved my Q6600 to fedora 8 64bit today because the optimized vista client from lunatics.at kept giving me tons of errors.

If its really true im about to add my final box to the race and it already has a 30gb empty space on its partition i could go 64 bit again.

Edit: some info on the issues with the optimized client and vista

The 64-bit apps are at least 15-20% faster, especially if you get Crunch3r's builds. Windows apps are faster than Linux ones on the same hardware.

What errors were you getting?

thankfully I'm not using vista. I just downloaded v2.4 with ssse3 for my e6750. I'll put 2.4 on the other machines over the next few days.

ok, now it has voided all of my WU's and won't allow me to DL more than 2 WU's at a time. I have an error message stating: (reached daily quote of 2 results). I'm still using 5.10.28, is that the issue?

yuck, just uninstalled/reinstalled boinc several times. finally settled on latest client (5.10.28) with crunch3r's v2.4 ssse3 optimized drivers. hopefully it won't limit me to just 2 apps per day again...

I always had a rule that I would not tear my engine apart during the middle of a race. You can't win sitting in the pits.

that's a good rule. Fortunately, I've managed to get mine running smoothly again. In fact, it is not only giving me 80% or so credit for completed WU's like I was getting with v2.2. I was still getting a 25% increase in total granted credit so I had no complaints, but if this gives ANOTHER 25% increase...

Good rule, but that's why I run sprints. Silly to tear down, when the race is only 20 mins. long.

Applications before 2.4 have a higher credit multiplier. It was changed with the MB apps.

Downgrading to BOINC-client v5.9.0 is not a good idea...

Especially since SETI@home has had some form of validation-errors the last couple days, there it seems if you reports result a short time after uploaded, it's a chance it will be marked invalid and give zero credit. Since one of the bugs in v5.9.0 is "report result immediately", v5.9.0 is the version with highest chance of any BOINC-client of failing validation...

Failing validation will of course not be very benefical in the current race...

Using Crunch3r's SETI@home-applications on the other hand is not a problem, even I'm doubtful the 64-bit-version gives 15-20% speed-up over the optimized 32-bit version...

# seconds per TimeStep will therefore be a measure of how fast your computer is, the lower the better... Meaning, 22 s/TS is nearly 3x faster than 60 s/TS...

Sorry, my output has declined just at the start of the race. A few of my boxes stopped crunching. I should have this resolved today and up my output by a bit.

I've found that using crunch3r's 64-bit app under WinXP64 results in a nice increase (2:40 vs 3+ hours.)

On my two Linux 64 boxes, the 64-bit apps did not improve results. However, using the 32-bit apps results in the same improvement as under WinXP64.
