So I got my friends 4yr old 360. Its obviously RRoD'd, but he says he's tried to repair ir once already, by reapplying thermal paste to no avail, before I crack it open, what is the best way to fix it. I heard some techniques are dangerous. So I'm not sure which guide to follow.

I don't have a 360, so I can't help much here, but it might help to provide an exact model number. If I recall correctly, RRoD repair methods vary from model to model. I could be wrong though.

I can't get the exact model as it doesn't have a casing, but it was manufactured on 26 July 2006. If that helps.

I did the X-clamp and it worked for about a year.

Hey, yes xclamp method works, but doesnt last aslong. You would need to order a couple of fiber, and nylon washers. Get some screws. You would also need to reseat the solder in the method. It would instead bend the motherboard the other way, and will come back RROD! The only clean method I have seen is to use a infrared hot air station. This is the best way to resolder the broken joints, known for the RROD! That xbox is quite old, but google is your best friend!
