RSX-S 148k miles $6250 good for beater?

Looks to be stock, no mods and claimed to be woman driven.

I'm still waiting to see how the recent maintenance has been done on it.
If I buy this it will be my 3rd silver car in a row but the deal looks good I might sell the WRX and get me a true sports car.

I'm not sure that going from a WRX to an RSX-S is going in the right direction if you want a "true sports car" While the RSX-S is a a fun "sporty" car, I think the WRX is the much faster, better handling car. I wouldn't call the RSX a sports car, it's better classified as a sport compact. I say this as a happy owner of an RSX-S.

However, if you are getting this as a beater and thinking of another real sports car then it MIGHT make sense. The RSX is a good, reliable, decently fun car that gets a combined 30+ mpg if you're not flooring it all the time.

About the car in the link: The cracked fog light is a common complaint on the RSX. I don't know what to make of the price, it seems high but I'm assuming that you can negotiate it down.

FWD... Coupe a real sports car? Is it because it has VTEC? LOL. Turbo > NA. Only thing I can say is that the RSX-S has decent mileage... but takes 91 only... and the leather seats are very likely cracked badly unless cared for.

I'd guess it's a relatively fair market price, but therein lies the problem. $6k+ for a decade-old car with that many miles just isn't my thing.

I'd have to see this in person. Honda leather usually isn't very soft and lasts longer than say a Toyota or Nissan. Again not the most comfortable leather.

A rsx is much better daily then a wrx. That hatch will come in handy and the higher MPG.

I think the rsx are very prone to rust. Aside from that I haven't heard too many problems with those k20 motors. Not sure about body problems. I'll gladly pay $5000 for said car.

Price is a bit high for the mileage imo. I had a chance to buy an 06 I think with 70k on it for $10k before I got my car.

If the dealership hadn't tried to rip me off and pull a fast one on the deal it would be my car right now.

Very fun little car though. Good mileage as well.

Don't agree with the first part, but I agree that the car is worth around 5k. The k20 motors are kind of wimpy around town unless you are really driving the RPMs hard. The WRX is a lot easier to drive and still have 'fun' without winding-out the whole car. Mileage isn't great on either car though.

Those are really nice cars and most of the people I know who bought them new still have them with the only issue being loose interior trim. 148K on one driven by someone who is not a 18-35 year old male is usually not a big deal.

At that mileage, those who beat the crap out of em would have likely destroyed the synchro's already. If it shifts smoothly and their are no oil leaks I'd consider haggling for it.
At that price point I would rather a 150K RSX-x over a comparably priced WRX.

I just found out that the RSX-S eats premium... not going to bite on this.

I figure I could get at least 10-11k for my WRX add the 6k for the RSX and I'm already at 16-17k towards a newer better car.

I washed/clayed/waxed my car last night and I have trouble closing the trunk its so smooth I like looking at it while its shiny so right now I dont want to get rid of the car lol

wow i can get beater wrx's for 5000-6000, with 100-120k miles. This RSX isn't a good deal. I would just partial coverage the wrx and if it ever got totaled I would take the parts and use them as replacements for mine

I guess I shouldn't offer advice since my wife and I currently have twin WRXs. One was bought new, the other was a deal I thought was good for a beater. In fact, we just took the beater to Vegas.

It's a great daily driver. Looks surprisingly clean for a 2003.

A couple of things:

1) Leather seats will tear at the seam if they haven't already + they are not really comfortable on extended trips
2) Trunk will slowly collect a puddle of water; replace tail light gaskets
3) Replace the stock Michellin tires

Price seems a bit high, but I'm out in California where there are plenty of RSX's to choose from.

A 5000-60000 Wrx truly will be a beater. I just checked craigslist and that money gets one with a blown motor or th hell beaten out of it.

The fact that this takes premium really is a small issue when you compare it to a WRX that will get at least 5mpg less on avg. My friend has a 2002 WRX and he gets about 20city/26 hwy (un-modified). My 2003 RSX-S never went below 26mpg on a fillup, and I even hit 35mpg once (before I started modding it).

For a high-mileage daily driver, the RSX is clearly a more reliable car without the turbo. The K20 will last a while if taken care of well. If you want to have more fun going fast, etc, the WRX is probably a better car.

Mine has just over 100k miles and the thing that annoys me the most is the seam of my drivers seat coming apart.

As for this car, if it's in good shape, I would pay $6000, but I'm biased

Try to find a 5th gen Prelude if you want that type of car.
IMO one of the best looking Hondas of all time.
