Rubbermaid Container as a Case?

Hrm, so for the sake of cheapness i'm wondering if a rubbermaid container would work as a temporary case? I'm most worried about static electricity? Would this not be a good idea?

Anyhow, your comments would be welcome, thanks all!

Edit: Oh and also, would I have to mount the motherboard onto a piece of wood or something?

Why spend so much money? Just use a cardboard box. Okay..okay...I'm being smarta$$, but seriously why would you want to use cheap plastic for a case? What stability would you have for your components? I wouldn't even consider an idea like that.

ha, yah that's true... just seeing if the idea is feasible. I don't have a metal case and was just wondering if a rubbermaid container would work as a temporary workaround.

It might work, and it might work well. Plastic deadens vibrations, so your case might be quieter than all the other cases. Just make sure hot components don't touch the plastic and the air circulates well.

I really do think that a solid cardboard box would be a better idea. I've cardboard box mods on the net and even one built into a wooden desk! Just make sure that u get clean cuts and everything is stable. Dont forget to post pics!

Well, I already went out and bought the container, cost me like 3 bucks. I'm planning on running 3 nmbs for cooling and mounting the mobo to a piece of wood. Hopefully I can get everything into the case!

But yah i'll post up some pics later on tonight after i put it all in. I can't wait!

I'm laughing, but I'm dead serious.

Gah, does anyone have an input on the static electricity deal though? I'm really afraid I'm going to shock this computer into an early grave...

I'm wondering if I mounted the PSU directly to the side of the Container, would it get rid of the static electricity(basically ground the whole container?)?

P.S. - Just think about the portability... I've been carrying crap around from my place to my gf's and it's so useful to have a rubbermaid container...

I think the static would kill your comp, but that's just what I think. I remember sticking my head into plastic tubs when I was a kid, and my hair would stand up from all the static eletricity after playing with it for a while. So I don't think it's a good idea to build a comp in that rubbermaid case idea of yours.

If static is a big concern, why not coat the plastic container with some kind of acrylic? People use acrylic/plexiglass cases, and static's not a concern there. Just apply a couple coats, wait for it to dry, and mount your components (not in the sexual manner, of course).

If you use tupperware you could burp the lid, keep it in the freezer and it'd never spoil.

God, I crack myself up. Oooooohhhh, I think there's cartoons on now!

If money is an issue, why don't you buy a cheap $30 case? I know you can afford 30 bucks. Why take the chance and ruin your computer parts?
