Some thought it would be funny to walk down the street with realistic looking handguns and point them at people. They got a rude awakening when we showed up.

Time to move buddy. Your problems with the kids there have to go beyond last night if that is what happened.

I'm a cop, so I dealt with the whole towns problems. Sorry if you misunderstood that they were solely my problems.

Kids are worthless these days. Last year like 85 kids came by, this year maybe 50, if that. Most were decent, around 12 or younger for the most part, one or two groups of older kids without costumes but they were still polite so it was alright. The freaky part was like 10pm when the doorbell rang and my brother-in-law answered it and there were 4 people that must've been at least 30 standing there.

My mistake. Ya, it must suck to be a cop on Halloween. I sympathize.

Corrected that for you.

This Christian spent his even at his church, handing out candy (just candy, no pamphlets, no condemnation) to trick-or-treaters. Please don't lump us all in with the unfortunately vocal idiots out there.

I had no problems with any of them last night...all dressed up, young, polite. I had way too much candy so I told them to grab however much they wanted and they still only took 2-3 pieces max.

Some of my friends went out trick or treating last night. We're seniors btw (17/18). I mean, come on. I just eat the leftover candy (we get few kids in our neighborhood). Last night, we got 3-4 groups. 1 of them consisted of middle school girls who seemed a little bitchy. The only decent one seemed to be a somewhat pudgy one at the back who (surprisingly) just took a blow pop.

I can't believe a kid actually reached inside the house for candy, though.

Is it legal to pelt a kid with paintballs if they egg and or tp your house?

Tell them "I would have had more candy for you, but that last group of rude kids kept asking for more and they took it all"

Then stab them in the jaws.

My buddies and I fulfilled your dream when we were teenagers. There were a few years in a row where most of our neighborhood got hit bad with eggs and tp. As it turned out, the kids who did it went to our school and decided to brag about it.

So, in retaliation, we decided to pay the local flea market a visit that following year and purchased some slingshots, regular paint balls for the slingshots, a blowgun, and some miniature paint balls for the blowgun. Sure enough, those same kids came once again except this time we were ready and shot the hell out of them while dressed up in fatigues and full mask of camouflage face paint. We chased them down the streets for a little while then went home.

Good times

I get about 75 to 100 kids every year, never had a problem. Oh you get the one kid that tries to come back for more. You catch him, and he didn't say anything. Thats about it. No one was rude, for the most part, they are polite, and say thank you. Depends on where you live. Not all kids are bad.

Had one toddler dressed as a skunk. I had to laugh. Some of the little kids were quite cute, "I'm snow white!!" She must of been 4 yrs old. "You make a pretty snow white!" I told her. Another kid, "This your house? "Yes it is" I replied, he shakes his head yes at me oh so furiously. I think that was good, lol. Again, the kids were fine, no problems for me.

Bear with me, but let me tell you about an Oogabooga Halloween.

My day began, I woke up and went to work where the Halloween spirit was in full force. My boss took the day off, but only as a rouse. He sent a warning email telling people not to clown around while he was gone. He ended up showing up in full evil clown costume complete with gun. We didn't even know it was him in there until a couple hours later. There was a baking contest and treats were had by all. Dishes upon dishes of baked good with more candy than reasonable for a department of techs. All was right in the world.

I rushed home that evening expecting a great evening. I had bought a bag of candy from costco and had some larger candy bars for those who had exceptional costumes on hand. I eagerly awaited for kids in costumes to arrive so I can fill their bags with sweets and watch them smile. At first I was worried, wondering how I would ration the delectable treats to the hordes of youngins. Should I have bought two bags? Oh WOE AM I! What was I thinking. As the night went on, my door bell did not ring.

I then begin thinking, man it will be great to put large bags of handfuls of candy into their bags. The night went on and the door bell did not ring.

At last I thought, man the next kid who rings my doorbell is going to get a ton of candy. I'm just going to give him the bag. My doorbell did not ring.

Sadly dejected I opened the bag and grabbed a handful for myself. Where were the children that made this night worthy of a name. Sitting in my chair I began sorting through my mail when I noticed a community flyer. I've been here for four months and I haven't read one yet, I might as well try doing something scary on Halloween. Browsing its contents casually, something caught my eye. It was a notice from the home owners association, informing the residents as a reminder to not display pumpkins before the 30th, and to remove any displayed pumpkins by nov1st noon. I wondered why no one cared about Halloween no more.

Halloween Died for me, October 31st, 2007.

Ohhh don't be sad oogabooga, I do think neighborhoods go through shifts. You get kids for awhile, things change, they get older, the trick or treaters are less and less. Maybe for a few years, there are hardly any. People move, new people move in, with kids, and the shift starts all over again. Neighborhoods change. Don't throw away Halloween.

Ah... the mighty HOA, crushing anything fun and exciting.

When we used to have pumpkins at home, they would sit from about 2 weeks before Halloween to Thanksgiving (if they didn't rot first).

Dicks. I had at least 50 kids, AT LEAST half of who did not live here. I can understand if you live ghetto fab and cannot trick or treat in the 'hood, but come on, you want my candy you gotta pay the same fugging property taxes I do.

Anyway, most of the kids were fine. I kind of hate giving it to teens, though, like they feel I owe them. One little skank B was rooting around in the bowl while I held it with my left hand like it was hers and when I passed her a twizler she said she didn't like them and kept on rooting. There were adults around so I didn't want to snatch it back, but one day she'll be working a crap job and be beaten by her boyfriend, so it'll all work itself out.

Most kids were fine, though, and maybe 1/3 say thank you, even though only 1/4 bother to say trick or treat.

Five kids about 13 were talking about doing something naughty, seemingly not caring that I was in the immediate area (it was dark), so I stood in the shadows beside a neighbors house for a few minutes ready to skoorb-whoop on them should they do anything crazy but they didn't. My pumpkin snowman guy didn't even get kicked over!

The rules of candy-giving...

1. The kid made a decent attempt to dress up.
2. The kid appears to be younger than 13 years old.
3. The kid speaks the proper words, "Trick or Treat", when you greet them.

If one or two of these rules are not met, you hand them a treat from a secondary bowl, usually supplied with; apples, pencils, erasers, and candy that nobody likes (Black and Orange Turds, Bit-O-Honey, unwrapped peanut-brittle, Circus Peanuts, Caramel Creams)

If none of the rules are met, you ignore the kid. You can also prepare a third bowl for these deviants, filled with; pennies, paperclips, cotton-swabs, q-tips, makeup sponges, and discarded toiletries.

Keep an airsoft pistol handy for any potential eggers. A one-pump BB gun if you're feeling vigilant.

I like to keep the normal nice candy (small candy bars) for kids dressed up nice or creatively for halloween. If the big kids come to the door without a costume, they get 1 piece of hard candy. Anise flavored or something equally horrible to a kid. It's twice as enjoyable handing out the candy when the kids are on the porch at the same time - little kids dressed up and big kids not dressed up. We don't have big kids coming to the door in our new neighborhood though.

You can choose who you give the candy to or not. If someone isn't dressed up, tell them to go away. I don't let kids take stuff from my bowl, I give them a few pieces of whatever and go from there. Everyone we had was friendly though so it must just be your neighborhoods.

And all of you poor saps that spend a ton on Halloween candy just made the candy manufacturers a ton of money on a holiday they created for this very effect.

that was a sad story.

Did you decorate the outside of your place? You will usually get more trick or treaters the more you decorate. Also, turn on all the lights in your house that night and open some of the curtains. A lot of houses get skipped because people do not think anyone is home or just do not want to give out candy because they don't see any holiday decorations outside.

I must live in a good neighborhood because all the kids we got came with their parents and were model citizens and all had great costumes. I ended up setting up a table outside and sitting there with my dog and my laptop while chatting with the neighbors handing out candies. And I think it would have even been safe to leave the candy bowl outside without the fear of someone taking all of it.

I laugh at the "kids these days" comments. Because your parents said the exact same things about you.

Wow, that is really, really gay. Who the fack gets insulted by seeing a pumpkin? I'm trying to put myself into the mindset of a person who would enact such a rule, and I cannot manage to do so. It is simply beyond me. Have these people never seen How The Grinch Stole Christmas? I thought every single person in America had seen that.
