I bought a bag of Ruffles, a week ago I had Wavy Lay's at my folks house.

Using the same dip, noticing the Ruffles break more often. Think it might be a thinner cheap. Flavor is right there though. I give Wavy Lay's points for durability.

Ruffles are like re-formed from mush chips. Lay's are more like a real cut potato slice. They taste better and have a better crunch while also being a better dip delivery device.

I prefer Ruffles while dipping and plain Lays to go with sandwiches, no dipping.

I'm pretty certain that's not true, unless you're only saying that Ruffles are "like" the molded chips in some way. But I don't see how they could be, since they're sliced potatoes, just like the Lay's.

They taste better and have a better crunch while also being a better dip delivery device.

The Wavy Lays are a bit thicker and the ridges are larger and wider than those in Ruffles.

I always use Wavy Lay's for dipping. Same as op I find ruffles break too much often when dipping.

I'm not big on dips either (other than guacamole).

Between those two I prefer Ruffles for some reason, although they're sharper on my gums/throat. I'd take regular Lay's over them (even if they suck for dipping), or better yet the thick cut ones now.

If I'm dipping potaters, then its gonna be fries in Heinz ketchup. I put ketchup on the thick cut Lay's and they were alright (but not as good as fries).

I saw some chocolate covered Wavy Lay's. Didn't try those but did get some peanut butter filled pretzels.

Oh and Wal-Mart of all places started carrying big soft pretzels (you get 2 in a box with a bag of huge ass salt crystals), they're kinda good. It says to put them in the oven for like 7-10 minutes, which is stupid, as they're already cooked and 30 seconds in the microwave (buttered up just a bit) and they're good to eat. Yeah yeah, I'm sure you can probably get even bigger awesome freshly made soft pretzels for like $1 on every other corner in NYC or Chicago, but if you get a craving for them every so often they're not too bad.

Oh, Wal-Mart also has a "Terra" (think that's right) brand that makes some good (but kinda expensive for how much you get) chips. They have a salt and pepper, an exotic potato (mix of different potatoes including blue and red ones), and then sweet potato chips that are pretty decent.

One last oh, the company I used to work for makes the machinery for the company that makes these: http://www.harvestsnaps.com/products/
They sent some samples and they're pretty good (the texture is kinda like soft cheese puffs). I buy a bag of the normal ones every so often from Wal-Mart (for $1.50). A bit expensive compared to potato chips, but the smaller bags helps you control portion. Even if you hate peas I think you'd still like these (especially the flavored ones, its like potatoes where like any flavor will easily overwhelm the potato flavor). They're a bit healthier per serving (little bit less calories, more fiber, more protein) than potato chips too.

I don't use dips so much anymore. I just like potato.

Are you going to cut me like Ruffles or Wavy Lays?

Walmart sells Great Value chips in both rippled and wavy. Exact same thing except for the frequency and amplitude of the waves. And just as good as Lay's, with maybe a few more broken chips.

oh now we're talking guac and possibly salsa? OK...I don't really call those dips but I'll endulge. That shit is basically a meal, but I don't eat those with potato chips. Do people do that?

Corn chips only, for me. And I'd have to say that salsa is probably the number one food product for me, by volumetric consumption at this point in my life. But, for whatever reason, I can't imagine those foods being eaten with any type of potato chip. Sounds weird.

I used to like SC&O and things like that--still do--I just don't seek it out. Artichoke dips and the like are great, too...just don't care to make them or request them. Put it in my face and I will eat it, though.

I prefer a black bean, corn, and/or multi-bean, oil& vinegary type dip to those "ranch-based" things, though.

I like Tostitos Scoops and dipping them into a thick, not too spicy chili.

now that's good snacking.

Hey Thanks darkswordsman, thats a whole load of extra info for me to consider too

I admit that I have a enjoy these types of snacks a bit too much. I like potatoes in general a bit too much really. Been working on converting to baked instead of processed forms, but always will get cravings for fries.

Walmart sells Great Value chips in both rippled and wavy. Exact same thing except for the frequency and amplitude of the waves. And just as good as Lay's, with maybe a few more broken chips.

Yeah the Great Value chips are fine (but its pretty difficult to fuckup plain potato chips). They actually had some knock-off Sun Chips ones that I liked but now I can't find them. They were softer (still crunchy so its not like they were soft pita chips or even soft cracker level) than Sun Chips, but tasted pretty much the same.

The only dip besides guacamole worth it's water is sour cream and onion dip with a standard salted potato chip.

I'm not a big sour cream fan (and ugh at how a lot of dips are sour cream based, and especially those shitty ones that have "GUACAMOLE!" and died green). I also hate how many multi-layer dips make sour cream the main ingredient. Ditch it entirely and let me enjoy the rest.

I like sour cream and onion flavored chips (the Pringles ones used to be one of my favorite junk foods as a kid, when I'd get to rent like Friday the 13th movies and get junk food for doing good in school; oh I had some recently and Pringles doesn't have the little green chive flakes on them any more WTF?), but I fucking HATE people putting that shit in mashed potatoes. My sister's fiancee did that for Thanksgiving this year and I ate just a small amount (normally I can eat like a 5lb bag worth of mashed potatoes just by myself).

oh now we're talking guac and possibly salsa? OK...I don't really call those dips but I'll endulge. That shit is basically a meal, but I don't eat those with potato chips. Do people do that?

I disagree that it's a meal. Bit of chips and guac is a fine snack. It can certainly turn into a meal's worth quickly though (as chips in general have a way of doing).

Definitely salsa is good (chunky for me though, hate the practically liquid salsa that way too many restaurants have). Yeah salsa wouldn't be good for potato. I actually do dip the Thick Cut Lays in guac. Same with Sun Chips. I wouldn't say its great, but its fine.

Corn chips are good (I do a lazy ass thing, dump Chili Cheese Frito's, Bush's Kidney beans in chili sauce, and some shredded cheddar cheese). For reasons I cannot explain, I love the blue corn Tostito's, especially for taco salads. I've tried plenty of other blue corn tortilla chips but something about the Tostito's that I prefer. I also like the the Yellow Corn Doritos (I don't know how people stand eating the over the top flavored other Doritos). I've enjoyed the black bean chips I've had.

I tend towards the more plain stuff now, or simple flavors. I rarely get the flavored versions of chips/crackers. And even more rarely do any real dip with them. I'll eat them if offered and I'm hungry. One exception I occasionally make is for Honey Mustard Pringles. I also did like the Honey Mustard pretzels, but when it comes to pretzels they gotta be big and soft or filled.

Spinach dips are a total fucking crapshoot. I've had some that were great, and then others that gave me flashbacks of when they'd force me to eat that fucking disgusting canned atrocity they try to call spinach (that made me swear off spinach for a long time).

I know they're goddawful for you, but man are the bloomin onion/awsome blossoms/whatever name for the fried split onions are so damn good. I tried some chips (think they might've even been Fun'yuns) that were flavored like that, but it wasn't the same even if they did get the flavor of the sauce down pretty well.

Whatever you do, don't get the ones made with fake fat (olestra).

I think they actually had a newer version that significantly lessened that. But yeah "may cause anal leakage" pretty much says it all itself

I think one of those diet pills (that makes it so your body doesn't process some fat) causes the same thing (you get runny/oily shits).

Also, don't consume any of the sugar free foods in excessive quantities. See the Amazon reviews for the gummi bears for instance. In college I once ate a whole quart (? whatever the size that the plastic ice cream containers are now) of Blue Bunny "Sweet Freedom" (maybe Rocky Road?), and I didn't have the toilet problems the gummi bears apparently cause, but I had the most despicable gas. Luckily I did that on a Friday night and my roommate went home that weekend. But it the smell literally made me even leave the room, it was rancid and would just fill the room. Lasted the weekend too. I laugh about it now but lesson learned for sure.

I love french onion dip. Funny you mention the guacamole dip. A couple years ago I went to buy some Dean's french onion dip, but bought their guacomole dip by mistake. I ate half the container before I even noticed. Tasted pretty much the same.

I always have whole wheat tortillas on hand and use them much like pita bread. I buy chips only occasionally these days, but for snacking, whole wheat tortillas with a bean dip or hummus is good.

Tribe Swirl Sriracha hummus is pretty damned tasty, btw.
