This Motortrend article is interesting:

It looks like Chevy is killing off the Camaro as we know it in 2024 and replacing it with a electric sport sedan. Yeah, an electric Camaro with four doors. Knowing Chevrolet, it will probably look more like a crossover than an actual sport sedan. Think "Electric version of a 2021 Blazer".

It's almost like they saw what Ford did with the "Mustang" Mach E and thought, "Gee, how can we piss off our sports car fans even more than that? Oh, I know!"

At least Dodge seems to still be on track, and has plans to build an Electric muscle car that actually looks like a muscle car.

So they are making the same mistake Ford did.
I get ending the Camaro. But making a sedan and calling it a Camaro is just dumb. Hopefully they do not do it.

For those that do not know Chevy only has 1 4 door gas car left, the Spark. All others are electric or 2 door cars now.

Maybe not intentionally, but GM basically conceded that that couldn't beat Toyota ICEs and went electric early because electrics=reliable.

Let's see if they can make that bailout a net gain.

I get replacing the Camaro with something electric, but why a sedan of all things? Maybe they think the demographic that buys Camaro's won't buy an equivalent electric.

Or hell make both a coupe and sedan. Christ, I miss the days they made different body styles of the same nameplate.

Camaro has typically played second fiddle to the mustang but sales have tanked and the design of the Camaro makes it a poorly selling niche vehicle at best.
It's functionally a 2 seater with tiny trunk that you can't see out of making it a "second car" for most buyers.
It's not a halo vehicle.
The competition offers more flexible vehicles and pricing.
The drivetrain is a dead end.
The people care less and less about Camaro heritage and those that do care AND have the money to actually buy it end up in the CUV\SUV their wife tells them to buy or the pickup their friends tell them to buy.
The 10 people on the internet who "has a friend" who bought one and they track it every day and blah blah blah are going to be very concerned about all this business of the Camaro being dropped from the lineup.

GM being GM will follow Ford's path of slapping the name and a few styling cues on whatever electric CUV is in the pipeline.

They seem to be following Chrysler's (and arguably Ford already made the move with the Mach-E) lead, as the Charger and Challenger are gonna be replaced by a single car. Which I think would be fine if its a 2 door with maybe RX-8 style rear half doors but something with more backseat space (so between Charger and Challenger). Electric platform should enable vehicles like that, that look more like a 2 door but offer 4 door practicality (legroom)

And yeah, Camaro sales have tanked hard. Its getting whupped by the Mustang and Challenger. And GM is going electric. I think full electric Camaro makes more sense than say Corvette, or even their other sedans. I could see it ending up like the Mustang, where its basically Chevy's only car offered. Honestly, while the name purists will complain, I'd love if it spawned a whole lineup based on it, with 2 door, 4 door, wagon (Nomad), and El Camino esque pickup.

Of the traditional V8 pony cars for the noise and tire smoke crowd at 45 grand mark
Mustang - You need to turn and burn, carry stuff and also commute in it.
Challenger - You just need to burn, commute AND You got 3 friends AND you need to carry stuff (Challenger is the option if you also need a 4 passenger vehicle.
Camaro - You already have another car or you have no friends or family, you are trying to make friends at your local track by spitting stats at them.

I'm biased because of my S550, but I drove past a Ford dealership on the way to a client today & they had the full Mach-E color spectrum on display in various trims. To me, the design is pretty bland. It's not a bad looking car as far as EV crossovers go, but just imagine if they had done the same thing to a vintage stang lol:

Before I got my Mustang, I went to check out a new Camaro. I didn't even test-drive it. Got into it in the parking lot & noped right out of it...horrible visibility, seat didn't actually lean all the way back, no place to put my arm on the side door, etc. Which is a pity because it's a sick-looking car, but I use mine as my daily driver & it simply wasn't as comfortable as I wanted & the visibility was scary.

Even tho my Jeep experience left a bad taste in my mouth about FCA, I do appreciate what Dodge is doing with their "eMuscle" car. Curious to see what they're going to do against Tesla's 1.99s Plaid tho!
