[RUMOR] GTA V PC release date

I just stumbled upon this, I am not sure what to think. They claim GTA V PC will come out november 22, but with a max resolution of 720p and a cap of either 30 or 60 fps?

Doesnt sound too credible to me, but I wanted to share it to see what you guys think.

What's more, the game is optimized for the PC and will have a locked framerate of either 30 or 60fps, although its resolution is capped at 1280x720.

Rockstar has made some bad PC ports, but none of them are that bad.

A higher 1920x1080 is possible but black bars will be added to compensate.

This doesn't even make any sense. 720p is the exact same aspect ratio as 1080p. Black bars would be unnecessary, unless you're putting them on literally all sides of the image (which would be completely absurd if true). Article screams bullshit.

They not going to release it for PC until they milk the PS$ and Xbox1. $1 billions in 3 days, PC is not going to get them anywhere near that. Like it or not Console is where the money is for them.

There is absolutely no way that Rockstar is this stupid. They know PC gamers expect more than 720p. Releasing it with a 720p cap will simply ensure that they get zero revenue, which is contrary to the entire purpose of releasing it on the PC platform.

This has to be an absolute 100% fake.

Here's an honest question. How much could it possibly cost for them to port GTA 5 over to PC? Supposedly it cost them $25 Mil to make GTA 5 for consoles. I figure it would cost them a fraction of that to port it over.

I'm just not grasping why such a huge company like Rockstar seems to always slack on releasing their main titles to PC.

Expected cost versus return? It might take them an extra $100K to do a really good job of porting, QC/QA, etc. to get the product where it would be really polished. Is that going to bring in an extra $100K in sales, or more importantly, $150K or greater in order to actually profit off it? Not likely.

They will announce the release before they release it. I haven't seen an announcement of a game less then 4 months from its release.

I am pretty sure they will make more than 100K. It's would be pretty rediculous to think otherwise. Even if it came out on steam alone. At one point the most users online for BF3 were on PC, then PS3, then Xbox.

I can pretty much guarandamntee that GTA5 will sell more copies on PC than BF3. They could make a couple of million off PC gamers.

Yeah, you didn't understand what I meant...a majority of those people will buy it even if it's ported terribly...I was saying would they get an EXTRA $100K in sales if they spent $100K more on polishing the PC version? Probably not.

Realize that the 3 day profit total for this game was over 40 times costs. Can they get anywhere near that ROI on PC? Not in this lifetime. I am a PC gamer, but I also recognize the economics dictate that they create DLC for XBOX and PS3 and ensure flawless gameplay on the XBONE and the PS4 before they venture over to get the crumbs of cash they would receive from the PC masses. All PC games do is complain that it doesn't work well on their very specific setup however on the other side (the dark side if I may), the closed side, they are making money hand over fist...

Remember it's a business. Profits over all and don't do pet projects until all the real profit has been squeezed out of the money holders.

Estimate cost to make was 256M. 1B/256M = ~4

Of course it won't make "economical sense" to release it NOW (we dont even know whether the PC port is finished)...but it MIGHT make economical sense to release before X-Mas and assuming that console sales surpassed their expectations. Then *R* may be able/willing to release earlier since the good console sales would off-set all potential losses from an "early" release of the PC version.

But of course an early release November/December is wishful thinking.

Anyway I would not expect a release before spring break 2014. It makes great business sense to release in that pattern. If you look at Rockstar they have tended to have a May release for the past few years. So sometime between March and May gives them time to polish the game as they want as well as market appropriately for NextGen consoles prior to a PC release.

Actually it makes perfect sense to make GTA5 on PC, because then you just copy it over to the PS4 and Xbox one. You see that is what is so awesome about the new consoles.. they are pcs! No longer do you need to make 3 games.. you just make 1.
