Doom is a great game. Been a long time since I played the older games but they hit the nail on the head with the new one. I'm enjoying it quite a lot and I really wasn't expecting to since I figured it would be boring. But they just did it right. It's really all about how the gameplay turns out.

Certain games you play for the story and others you play for the gameplay mechanics/experience. I think we were all expecting new experiences with the ps4 and x1 as far as technology and development goes.

I wasn't disappointed completely with either system but at the same time I wasn't as excited as I used to be.

I do want another last of us and another game from the order. Too bad they are done with uncharted but I hope they focus on another last of us game and i think now they will.

Another red dead redemption would be good too.

I checked out some ps live overwatch videos. Didn't really interest me. I didn't like the cartoon look. Now I don't mind the cell shading in some he's but nothing really grabbed me about overwatch.

I just meant that Overwatch seems to be the big game right now with the most internet buzz. I have a friend playing it, but I'm on the fence. He may decide to quit, I may just not like it, I may like it and get bored after a week. I want to try it but I don't want to buy it and not really play it much.

I finished Doom and am going to work on Witcher 3 before I decide whether I give Overwatch a try.

Yup, Overwatch is the main game with the buzz right now.... On the fence about it myself, though. I like Team Fortress shooters and all, but I'm not sure I'm going to play enough to justify dropping $60 on one.

On a whim I bought Valkyria Chronicles for PS4, mostly due to my collector habits and wanting the metal case.... and that's what I've been playing lately. The port seems to be mostly a copy paste from the PC version of the game, that's $20 on steam, but I prefer to play on my PS4 from my comfy couch. I work in an office all day at work, on a computer, so when I get home I'm allergic to computers. Anyway, for any SRPG fans out there, it's a pretty solid one. I've been having a lot of fun with it.

No idea what I'm going to play when I'm done with Valkyria Chronicles, though. Thank goodness the game has a lot of content to hold me over a while.

That's why I played during the beta to see if I was going to enjoy it because I was on the fence initially but once I played it, I loved it. I'm glad I finished Uncharted 4 before Overwatch came out because then I would never finish Uncharted. I love Overwatch. It's so fun to just jump in and play even for a round or two. It's much much different than Call of Duty and Battlefield type of shooters.

I'm not ready to dive down the rabbit hole to read up on Overwatch but everyone is talking about it here too so I thought I'd ask: it looks like StarCraft Ghost got moved to a new platform and given a less realistic/more cartoony make-over, kinda like Perfect Dark Zero. Is there any truth to this? I still have an ancient StarCraft Ghosts mousepad from Target back before the game was canceled.

Fury X is 8.6 TFLOPS, a more power efficient Vega based GPU + ZEN cores could easily hit 10 TFLOPS in late 2017 @ console power design limits. They might take a slight loss on them for a year but with a switch to 10nm in 2018 they could easily get costs down. A chipset like this could definitely power 4k games.

Kotaku leaked the Xbox One Slim

http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-slim-leaks-will-be-40-smaller-than-xbox-one-1781845089

With Sony holding out on talking about their upgrade PS4, I'm leaning towards Microsoft doing the same. Microsoft doesn't want a repeat of the Xbox One reveal so I'm guessing they want to see what Sony does first and respond.
Microsoft won't release a new Xbox until later in 2017 as they want it to be a more upgraded version than the current or slim version. The slim I think will support 4k video playback.

Yes 4K video so they likely updated the HDMI

LOL $450 for a smaller Xbone. Meh. If Microsoft is having a hard time selling them for $300 with an extra controller and a $75 gift hard good luck thinking you'll get $450 just by making it shorter and slapping in a new hard drive.

That's most likely just a placeholder, just like the date is. If it really is just smaller than it definitely won't be $450

I've had a (small) itch to buy an Xbox One; perhaps if this "S" model is cheaper and has significantly reduced power usage, I might be more likely to spring for it.

The normal Xbone really is huge. It's as big as an old VCR.

Why does the size of a console bother people so much? I have a spot in my cabinet for an Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, and my A/V receiver. Shrinking the size of any of those components doesn't get me a thing, just more empty space in the cabinet. Serious question, are there a lot of people that are working with such limited space that they really need a smaller console?

Space is _everything_ to we city folk. Trust me.

Yeah, that normal Xbox One size is pretty ridiculous in this day and technological age.

Fair point, but keep in mind it was likely engineered in 2012 and finally released for mass production in 2013. The main point, I assume, was to keep it running very cool and quiet, which they succeeded in doing. MS lost over $1B on the red-ring of death issues and they didn't want to repeat past mistakes.

Xbox One S will be $299. I may finally pick one up. I like the size.

In other news MS has teased the supposed performance of the new Xbox One chips (Project Scorpio)and I think they are being too optimistic. Their claim of 6teraflops of peak shader throughput and 320GB/s memory bandwidth is more than the coming AMD RX480 GPU and even rivals the 390x in shader throughput.

If they do it great, but I expect the actual numbers to be somewhat lower at launch.

Because marketing. When these things shipped the Sony crowd was all like "Smaller, cheaper, more powerful".
Now all they got left is powerful. And Microsoft is addressing that in 2017 with an Xbone that is shaping up to be mildly better than Neo.
