Where is "dominate" coming from? I believe what AMD said was that they planned to make VR capable video cards "affordable". If the 480 meets minimum VR specs and sells between $200-$300 then mission accomplished.

Yeah, I recall is was all about bringing down the cost of entry. Easier to "discredit" someone when you misrepresent them I suppose.

After reading last few pages I come to conclusion that people on forums are not really interested in technology but cheerleading their favorite brands, and/or bashing the other one brand based on personal preferences.

People who are really interested in technology can be counted in single digits on this forum.

+1 Its like a couple names always show up in these threads just to bash AMD. I could make a list but I'm sure we all know who they are........

Nothing points to that. Polaris 10 got an official AMD VR score of 6.3. That's around what an R9 290 gives. RX 470 cant even reach minimum VR specs.

Even if you OC Polaris from 1266Mhz to 1500Mhz. We talk 390X performance in VR measurement.

VR was another part they would dominate, right?

And those yields didn't work out either...

It was already mentioned by another poster that those values were obtained with very old (5 months) preliminary drivers for polaris. I think it is a good bet to wait 10 days and see what is the real deal.

Once again, RX480 was never meant to compete with GTX1070 or GTX1080.
But if it can really come close with some games to the GTX1070, it shows it is a great gpu design for the given price. I personally do not expect it to beat a GTX1070. But coming very close to it (OC)i see as a bonus. But i also see it as useless. Because all i want is a card (at stock clocks) that can play the games i want at 1080p fluidly with minimum framerates >60fps easily.

Performance in one specialized synthetic benchmark (with beta drivers, no less) is not indicative of real-world performance.

In terms of raw computing power, it's always been clear that Polaris 10 is going to land pretty close to Hawaii. Fewer cores, but higher clock speeds, means about the same theoretical TFlops output. 390X can do up to 5.9 TFlops, and Polaris 10 would do the same at 1283 MHz, which is just above the reference boost clock of 1266 MHz that has been indicated by multiple rumors.

The real question - and one that won't be answered until we have actual gaming benchmarks from reputable sites on release day - is whether Polaris does a better job of translating raw throughput into DX11 gaming performance than the 28nm GCN products did. Remember, GTX 980 Ti had less TFlops than 390X, but was a good 15%-25% faster depending on resolution. That means a lot will depend on whether, and to what extent, Polaris fixes the bottlenecks that were holding GCN 1.0-1.2 back, especially at 1080p. I'm fairly optimistic about this but I suppose only time will tell.

Steam VR test has been proven time and time again not to be a consistent benchmark. It's just a validation test. If you do some research you will find the scores vary wildly even between identical GPUs.

Vega will be competing with GP100/102.

You think he doesn't know this? It's been discussed over and over that GP102/100 is meant to battle Vega.

The pro-Nvidia drool that drips from a few here is amazing. If people aren't interested in discussing AMD tech why bother with the doom and gloom. Apparently AMD causes to many sleepless nights :sneaky:

It's possible that vega could have no real competition just like polaris is the price/performance is good enough

Why do you keep ignoring the key points of this slide. "At low power" and the fact that it is using a 5 month old driver that has no Polaris optimizations in it.

This piece of fud is clearly not working so it's time to move the goal posts to something else like yields, or stock prices, or amd going out of business.

People forget that he's from the Nvidia Focus Group... that, even when his signature indicates as much.

Do you think "at Low Power" means the card is running at some lower-than-max setting?
I think it means exactly what this thread is about. At low clocks/power this is where the card scores with 5 month old drivers. If you are ok pushing the clocks you can expect higher performance.

It's not rocket science so don't try and twist the meaning from what I posted.

You say it's a key point of the slide, why would running at stock settings be a key point?

I'm just trying to get an idea of why the words "at Low Power" in the slide stick out to some people as more than the marketing term that it is...

AMD promised the 2.5x number. That number is with stock settings (A bit less at boost clock). It all makes sense.
