Right, but just like GM107 is Maxwell 1, GM200 is Maxwell 2 and both overclock very similar (aka really good) despite having the same architecture but with tweaks.

EDIT: Tonga isn't exactly known for it's overclocking prowess, so putting Fiji and Tonga in the same category doesn't bode well. Anyways, we'll all know tomorrow. Reading around the web, people are saying Fiji voltage is locked down at least for reviews, which is weird.

Well, XFX has a 380 black edition at 1030 with the memory at 5800. Presumably it overclocks better than the 285 did?

I don't know for sure, but I'd presume not since it's the same exact chip. The 390x and 390 are not overclocking any better than the 290x and 290, so I'm not sure how or why Tonga would suddenly OC better under a different name.

The last BE 285 topped out at 1125, iirc.

So the 380 BE would only need 100mhz more to pass that. Which isn't much.

I guess we will need a reviewer to find out.

I'm really curious what a fully enabled Tonga would perform like. I know apple is using the majority for the m295x. Is it still possible a 380x could come out this generation?

It's still highly unfortunate. Even with voltage, Hawaii could barely eek out much more than stock voltage OC's without a massive increase in power. Maxwell, on the other hand, doesn't need a voltage adjustment to get 25% or more overclocks.

It's not too big of a difference actually. With added voltage Ryan got a 25% overclock on Anandtech's 980Ti (1202Mhz --> 1477Mhz). If the guy with the Fury was close to stable at 1240Mhz, a little voltage should get him there which would be an 18% overclock. Still a win for the 980Ti but not anything an end-user would notice.

Maxwell's voltage adjustment actually often hurts OC on Nvidia's stock cooler. Anyways I'm waiting for reviews before making final judgement. But the "he tried 1240" to me sounded like he randomly tried an overclock, instead of if it had said "he was stable at 1200 but failed at 1240."

This can't possibly be true. The m295X in the iMac 5k is an extremely niche BTO product that costs $2500. It isn't even carried in stock at Apple stores (all the models they can sell you at an Apple Store are Pitcairn based). Volumes of m295X in the 5k iMac must be very, very niche.

If there's anything tech people should know, ridiculous prices and Apple defies logic.

This is speculation masquerading as fact. Neither you nor I have any idea what Apple's sales figures on the iMac with M295X is, or how this compares to AMD's (also unknown) production figures.

And how certain are you that this product isn't carried in any Apple stores? How many have you visited to check?

I thought of this too, but then again - Apple knows how to make money. Especially their retail operation. The fact that they don't even attempt to stock the Tonga iMac in the stores tells me that it is not a popular option.

This is simple logic. Go to Apple's website right now and try to buy one. See how many clicks it takes you and how much money it costs. Basics of supply and demand and marketing show that m295X in the iMac is not a mainstream product.

I live in Silicon Valley where people are most crazy about expensive Apple computers. I tried to buy an m295X based iMac just 3 weeks ago, but had to settle for Pitcairn. Even then it was a $2200 computer, which is very expensive even for Apple.

Like I said. Simple logic.

Site is getting hammered but looks like within a few percent of 98Ti @4k
Only one I could get to pull up was Full HD Crysis 3 and Figi got hammered by the Titan. Would love to see the rest.

Edit: seems Figi stock and OC falls between 980 stock and 980 OC

Got about half the pages to load. Looks to be be between the 980 and 980Ti, sometimes falling short of the 980, while other times exceeding the Ti, but mostly between.

Not sure on the drivers though, it definitely seems to be inconsistent. Will wait for a more legit review...

But totally squashed at 1080p. Not good

Especially when the card ages, second hand buyers might play it on 1080p in future titles, the time where current flagships couldn't handle latest titles on 1440p anymore.

Something doesn't look right about that review. It's barely faster than a r9 290x. Gonna wait for reviews from more sites.
