Actually RS, I think we've reached "peak graphics" for this generation of console ports.

Performance at around GTA V and Witcher 3* are what I'll expect for the next few years
until next-gen consoles arrive.

It's a bit different than PS3 era, where it took a few years before devs started to really extract peak performance out of its SOC and graphics kept on progressing.

DX12 may even improve efficiency in this regards.

*PRed said they are already limited by console hardware in what they can achieve. This early in the console cycle!

Maybe but over the course of the next 24 months 4K High becomes 4K Medium and 1440P Ultra becomes High on the same GPU. All of a sudden 4K Medium doesn't sound so good. That's just me.

BTW, I am seeing some hilarious comments from people online trying to discredit AMD's Fiji:

"Honestly I like the way longer graphics cards look in my system. Just a personal thing though, nothing against AMD for the design here."

Dual or more cards isnt for me.
I rather have a better experience and lower settings to have such.

So people dont like small entusiast cards? so they stop buying them then? LOL
Its about to hit every card produced in the future.

O.M.G. they finally hired an engineer who cares about sound levels!

That's a Scythe Gentle Typhoon, a very good 120mm fan. (Yes, probably the expert water coolers might not rank it in the top 10 in the after-market rad scene but compared to most of the stock fans that come with 99% of AIOs, this blows them away!)

2-ball bearings - check
1,850 rpm: 0.083 A - 28 dBA - 98 m³/h
60,000 hours lifespan at 60*C
Heh, not that the Nidec GT's aren't good fans, but let's just hope it's not the 5400RPM version.
The rad is interesting though. I haven't seen a 120mm one like that with a reservoir that overhangs the fan. It's kind of reminiscent of Swiftech's H220.

OK so you tell me what major benefits any version of Tonga has over R9 290 that makes it a better buy? HTPC isn't it because 960 > 285 for that. Performance isn't it because it's worse than a 280X/7970Ghz. Perf/watt isn't it since it gets owned by a 960 in that metric or 290 for that matter. Price/performance isn't it either since 290 is better in that metric too.

So, please provide a logical reason how an R9 380 priced at even $199 is a better buy than a $220 after-market 290? It won't be which is why my advice is right on the money for a gamer.

After-market 290 = reference 290X and that means 61% more gaming performance at 1080P and 64% at 1440P. There is no feature in the world that an R9 380 will have that will make it worthwhile for a gamer to buy over a $220 after-market 290.

What an odd way to ask for someone's advice. I'll just list the reasons why I want Tonga and if you still need to know "why" then you can ask again.

I keep my cards for a long time, I use Linux, and I intend to take advantage of HSA software. To a lesser extent: electricity is expensive where I live, & it'll be in a Kaveri system.

Edit: I did notice you slipped in "gamer". I am gaming with this card, but you didn't specify anything about that with your original post.

The 390X is almost assuredly weaker than the 980 ti. Fury will be the card that has a chance of beating it. 390X might be able to beat the 980, but that's not even certain.

I read that R9 380X forum can beat GTX 980

The confusion might be that people were calling the card that's been named Fury the 390X. It now appears that the 390X will have the same specs as the 290X and Fury will be the new flagship 4096sp part.

Might be a respin for the 390 series which would with glofo manufacturing be on par or beat the 980 at a similiar or lower pricepoint. Fiji/Fury however is a different thing as it goes agaisnt the 980ti/TX

I'm guessing that isn't a reservoir but just a cap so that the radiator and fan appear to be a single unit. I'd say it's there just for aesthetics.

And speaking of aesthetics, WOW! That is one helluva nice looking system. Completely enclosed small video card, braided covering on hoses, top notch fan/radiator combo... This thing should run cool and quietly. And it'll fit in just about any case in existence that has a single 120mm fan mount.

The SFF crowd is going to love this thing.

I'm pretty sure it will fit pretty much in any enclosure even if there is no 120mm exhaust hole. Who says that water cooler radiator has to be mounted in every situation? You can as easily just let it lay on the bottom of the case while pumping all the hot air inside and let the fans do the job of clearing the air from inside the case. Then it's no different than existing air coolers but the cooling capacity to the GPU core is miles away from air coolers.

There is no 380X. And 380 is Tonga aka 285 rebrand. 390/390X are Hawaii rebrands with 8GB.

The only new thing is the 2 Fury cards.

I thought 380 was a 285 refresh, and 380x will be a full Tonga chip?? (1792 v 2048 shaders). Also read 380/x may have a 384 bit bus and 3GB..?

Uh, I guess you could do that. But I can't imagine anybody actually would. Honestly, I think you'll find that most cases manufactured in the last 10 years have at least one 120mm fan mount somewhere on them.

380 aka 285 and fury should be able to get HDMI 2.0. They are also the only cards that can handle 4K video. DP1.3? Zero I would guess.

The 384bit Tonga chip is nothing but a rumour it seems and doesnt exist.

There is no 380X from the looks of it. Even tho it could have been a 2048SP/256bit part via full Tonga. Perhaps its due to the Apple deal.

Meh, it's not a speculation. You can clearly see six 64-bit blocks of memory interface on that dieshot.

Yeah, R9 285 and R9 M295X were released quite a while ago, but not in a full chip configuration.

I would recommend not to argue with the technical iliterate. The die shot clearly shows a 384 bit bus, wether it will be enabled or not is another matter entirely.

Infraction issued for personal attack.
