Cheney can't be fired by Bush or anyone else, he can resign but that's it.

President Gives Support To Two Most Criticized Members Of His Cabinet
WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2006
(CBS/AP) President Bush said Wednesday he wants Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Vice President Dick Cheney to remain in his administration until the end of his presidency, extending a job guarantee to two of the most criticized members of his team.
If we're lucky, Cheney's next. Then, it'll be time for the Numbnutz In Chief.

Here is why the GOP is dumb.
If Bush would have made Rummy resign a couple weeks ago, he could have saved some Senate seats for the GOP IMHO.

Dear God, he just admitted to lying to journalists about Rumsfeld staying on just to "get you to the next question."

That was my thinking exactly--and I'm VERY confident that Rumsfeld offered his resignation 2 weeks ago but was told to wait until after the elections. Its not that Bush was only interested in saving his administration's image at the expense of GOP Congress. Its just that this time around Bush/Rove were so BLINDSIDED by the Dems big win--and now they stand to lose the Senate as well! They honestly didn't think this could happen, and THAT'S what scares me!
Failure to predict Dem victory = just another intelligence failure in the White House
