They're going to have a Vista sale next week and you should see a better E4300 combo and E6300 combo at that time (friend works at City Of Industry here in SoCal) - if you can hold off a week.

Now the Pentium D 925 combo in the San Jose ad for $99, that's a nice price.

Put it this way, you'll be lucky if your mobo lasts more than a few months running at stock speeds.

if you get one that runs ok for a couple weeks it should be ok for quite a long time. i have quite a few ECS boards that are running great (and for a few years now) at stock settings. that being said if you find one that gives you trouble, return/exchange it immediately! i also have this exact board from the 6400 combo a month ago and it's been rock solid.

well the deals are to generate foot traffic, so you will come in and buy other crap at frys while you are there . that doesnt happen on the web.

i know frys is a pretty big hassle to go to, i would usually just buy other stuff there too.

i asked them why their prices online were different than in store, about 2 years ago, and they said that they were each under independent management, so they each had their own stock and prices...it may be different now but thats what they told me then.

I have this MB with a 6300 that I got for $180 about 6 months ago and have been using it with no issues as my NO. 1 system . Rather than the stock HSF I use a Freezer 7 Pro. Very quiet.

Concerning issues with ECS, I have had no problems with any builds from their products over quite a few years and that includes a dozen or more MBs and several graphics cards. I usually even overclock them. 2 of my 6 current systems are ECS. My HTPC has an ECS MB with a xp2500 OCed to xp3200.

To answer the question of overclockability of this 4300/ecs combo, I imagine it should at least do 2.4Ghz up from 1.8Ghz by just raising the FSB from 200 to 266. That is the defautl FSB for the 6300 and that works just fine on this board.

This is classic. It's not a hot deal because you don't live close enough to the store? LOL.

This board is a POS, though, in my opinion. I bought it with the 6300 and was very disappointed. I couldn't get it to be 100% stable no matter what I tried. The price for the processor alone was worth it, so no worries.

Just got back from the Frys in Burbank and picked up one of these. Looks like they still had a few left. Now to dump the mobo and put together a new build.

The motherboard has terrible issues with nVidia AGP cards.

I bought this combo with E6300 at Frys.

I needed the AGP card because the built in video card will not do a 19" widescreen.

I purchased 2 nVidia cards and both of them will not work with all the drivers I tried.

Basically, the cpu is a keeper but you want to ebay the mobo.

I got one of these with a 6300 combo. Can't OC at all, but it runs fine at stock speed with some old PC3200 value RAM, and I stressed it too with days of prime and folding. Are you using DDR or DDR2? I heard DDR2 is less stable. Now with the 4300, this is hot because this board will run fine at 266FSB, so pretty much a guaranteed 2.4GHz OC right there.

I can't wait to get a better OCing motherboard for my 6300 when my budget allows, but I'm looking at over $350 for a MB and 2GB DDR2.

I was running DDR memory, pc3200.

I just bought a Gigabyte S3, some corsair DDR2 and a new pci-e video card, and it SMOKES. I'm glad the combo deal got me to jump on the core2duo, because I eventually completed the upgrade and love it.

My 6300 is running at 2.5 ghz just by increasing the bus speed in bios. No memory setting changes, voltage increases, or aftermarket cooling. I'm looking forward to seeing what it will do with a few tweaks.

If that board would have run without crashing, I might have never completed the upgrade. So thanks, ECS.

I also got my 6300 combo with the intention of getting a new MB later for some good OCing. It would become unstable at 300FSB. I leave it stock 266 and have primed it overnight. I am using DDR 3200. I use the OBGraphics going to a std 19" lcd with no problems. I don't game.
I still think this is a good deal for someone who has some DDR hanging around and you can get a very fast C2duo OCed at 2.4Ghz untill DDr2 and better MBs drop in price.

That's why I drove over to the Fremont Frys first thing this morning and picked it up. Bare cpu so you'll need to pick up a heatsink.

Now to save up some money for a good board and RAM.

Agreed.
My E6300 Fry combo is rock solid using the built-in 300 FSB O/C setting and PC3200 corsair ram. Noticably faster than my 3500+ system when crunching videos. Also, the nothing-special heatsink is near ambient temp at this E6400 speed. The E4300 with the higher muliplier could do 2400 for most, I would guess. Maybe a bit of luck involved here.
The bang/buck ratio is hard to beat.
