Before i start posting i just want to state that i am not begging, whinning, etc. in ANY way. I am just saying my problem and see what you guys suggest. So here it goes. Here are my specs:

Celeron 433
196mb PC-100 RAM
Intel Generic Motherboard
ATI Radeon 7200
WD 60 GIG HD
4x4x32 Burner

So yeah as you can tell this is pretty much a cruddy old computer. I try to get at least 2 hrs of gaming a week (Which doesnt happen often), but when i game my comp struggles (obviously). IF i had the money to get a new box i would, but the thing is my source of income goes to some other personal matters. What do you guys think? Temporary fix? Combo? I listed a WTB: thread in the For Sale/Trade forum.. Got a few feedback. My source of income is due to the work that i do on my computer.. Now that this computer is crapping out what do you guys think i can do? I have a VERY limited budget. It is literally dieing. Thanks guys for your two cents. Peace.

What is dying? power supply? mobo? HD? Hard to say anything other than "buy a new case, mobo and CPU" without knowing more.

Newegg, Hot Deals, Frys / Outpost -or- FS/FT to get some combo. A Celeron 1.3A + Soyo i815 mobo would cost about $110 at newegg and could use your existing case / power if they're OK, even your RAM if it is PC100 instead of PC66. Speed will be more than 3X what you have now.

I don't know what your budget is but this is a pretty good upgrade for the price and gives you some room to upgrade in the future:

from TCWO
Asus A7S333 SiS745 SktA DDR C-Media Snd: $45 (clearance section)

from NewEgg
AMD Duron 1.1GHz: $34

from GoogleGear
Kingston 256MB DDR266 PC2100 CL2 Memory Retail: $36.50

from SVC
SVC GC68 HeatSink+80mm fan: $9.00

Total: $124.50 shipped

That is one old system, you get another stick of ram (256 or 512) and it should give great improvments, but you can build a much better system for cheap now.

Thanks guys What do you think of this:

ECS-K7AMA MOBO
1ghz AMD T-Bird
Case
400w PS
-------------
for $75

add from existing:
60 GIG HD
10/100 Nic
Graphics Card
Mouse
Keyboard
Speakers

buy:
CDRW (Lite-On)

Sound good? That is what someone offered me.. I gotta buy some ram (Just bought some from Machupo) 2x 256 and 2x128 PC-133.. I think that is decent for now. I will get a CDRW when i get a chance and maybe some PC2100 down the road.

Any idea what speed the board is capable of? Swapping the Celeron for something bigger would extend the reach of your system if the cost of PII's and PIII's wasn't so high. Splice is right about going with a Duron. Check Pricewatch.com. 1g combos are in teh $70 range and you can still use your SDRAM. Be sure to check out resellerratings.com before you buy. Some of those really cheap combos are offered by really cheap companies.

Here is a site that I have used before.

Chances are that his existing board won't support coppermine cpu's and if it is a slot 1, they are very hard to find and expensive. Not to mention the fact that the Durons will outperform them and cost about 1/4 as much. I think his ECS K7S5A, and T-Bird 1 gig and case for $75 sounds like a good deal. Hopefully the ECS board is a good one and won't give him problems. Let's face it, for bargain upgrades, AMD is pretty hard to beat for those of us who are "monetarily challenged". Since I try to maintain 3 gaming systems for the family, I know what it is like and really enjoy picking up those $9.95 after rebate cdrw's, $19.95 after rebate 256 mb sticks of PC-133 ram and the 429.95 after rebate Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card.

Yep those were the days

my first computer was a Celeron 433. I remember buying a golden orb for it. And it had a Voodoo3 2000 that burned up on me when the case fan went out and the only cooling was that little PSU fan

Now it's my grandparents' computer. I threw it in an InWin A500 and gave them a PCP&C CPU-Cool Z1-CS HSF because there was something funky with the GOrb and the bearings were real noisy and the thing would use the motherboard as a sounding board and drive them insane.

Indeed, those were the days..
