I'm just gonna run the cable and keep on unplugging it when it's not in use. Somewhat of a pain, but some of these options are a little too much more than I'm willing to spend. I was actually hoping to run a wire instead of going wireless just based on the fact that a wireless adapter is going to cost me $100 for the xbox alone + all the other expenses

Running copper for ethernet between buildings is a big no-no!

I would assume both buildings would be using the same ground, since it's all on his property and all connected to the same power source (presumably).

If he was going between houses, or between office buildings, then it might be an issue.

The conduit won't cost more than $50 and a little labor, If you want a cheap out bury it naked but when your digging be careful!! YOU MIGHT DIE!!! HAHAHAHAhAhaha ha.
If ya hit the 110 run to your shed you might burn a nick in the shovel. Dead shovel! How's the 110 get out there? maybe run the cat 5 in the same conduit? Vacum cleaner and a string? might get lucky... Don't EVER piss on your meter box in a lightning storm,
