Seriously, not many people know of "Spirit Of Radio" which is an amazing song. Often makes me tear up, so beautiful for this language.

Invisible airwaves crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback on timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free

cheesy puns about physics/electromagnetics is what passes for lyrical brilliance on ATOT?

<^>

The song is about how people take the miracle of radio for granted, believing that it is free, when in fact it is anything but free.

true, and that's all well and good. but that stanza is a series of puns about topics from physics 102. i think it's cheesy and dorky. that someone would tear up to this song is odd to say the least.

rush's lyrics sound like they were written alternately by a dungeon master and an engineer. i like my music to transport me away from my day job.

I like his voice too. As for the lyrics, well some might be obscure if you haven't read any Ayn Rand. In any case, Platypus is catching on.

Hmm... If you read some of his books/writings, you'd know that the Peart-Rand connection has been extremely overplayed. Yes, he is a libertarian (note the small "l"), but hardly a Randite. As Neil himself said once, "I am nobody's disciple."

A example that just ran through my head is "Red Barchetta" off Moving Pictures, where Neil predicted that stringent vehicle safety laws would lead to huge gas-guzzling SUV's and the unintended consequences that would lead to of inattentive yet aggressive drivers who feel so protected in their vehicles that they no longer concern themselves with safe driving habits (admittedly he borrowed the idea from an earlier short story).

I think you're reading a bit too deeply into my posts

Heh. Sorry.
I am:
(1) a HUGE Rush fan, and
(2) I enjoy contributing to a good ol' fashioned pwning of eits.

And on that note, I literally cannot wait until July 21st. I swear, I found out yesterday that a friend and co-worker is getting married that day, and I told her, sorry, can't make it, seeing Rush in concert, wouldn't miss it for the world.

:music:What about the voice of Geddy Lee
How did it get so high?
I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy
(I know him, and he does)
And you're my fact checking cuz
:music:

Those Pavement lyrics crack my sh!t up. I used to be a big rush fan - spirit of radio, red barchetta, limelight still sound pretty good to me. The others are pretty annoying.

it's similarly fun to watch rush fans get their collective panties in a bunch. not to mention that it's extremely easy to pick on Rush because their singer sounds like a eunuch, the lyrics are cold and pretentious, and they use synths.

and the obscurity claim is just silly. i just bought the new Pig Destroyer album today - that's obscure.

0/10. Which song was written first? Sound of Silence or Spirit of Radio? Check the lyrics to both please.

Love that song too (the Pavement)

Rush kind of pissed me off...the two times I saw then--not once did they play "Fly By Night" ...bastards!

(granted, I find some of their stuff more "amusing" now than I used too...)
