He is recreating the Soviet Union, it just takes longer than a heartbeat. This may not be completely to our disadvantage either; with Western/Central Europe stagnant and America in decline retracting from superpower status, there must be some opposing force or the entire world will be Communist China. India is too bound by her own customs, Brazil is too corrupt and backward, and Africa is more fractured, more corrupt, and more diseased than ever. There must be some power able to provide some manner of brake on Red China, and bad as I hate to say it, better a resurgent USSR than a unified Islamic Middle Eastern Caliphate. Probably anyway.

Which is high up on the list of why Russia's neighbors and former vassal states aren't big fans of Russia. All Putin has to offer eastern europe is discounted oil/gas and the threat of military force if they don't agree to his proposals.

I'm not sure what we would do either. I have a feeling it's going to be Georgia Part II. Russia will act unilaterally to protect their interests, we'll join the western world in condemning Russian actions, diplomatic relations will once again be set back, and nothing very constructive will happen.

This! Ukraine is not our dance we sit this out just like Syria. There is not good outcome for the US getting involved nor any good reason to be involved. This is more Europe's responsibility to deal with.
I'm all for more free societies around the world however the residents need to do more lifting to make it happen. When we get involved the whole purpose changes from free Egypt/Syria/Iraq/Afghanistan/whoever else, to let's stop US imperialism.

Just a formality! They already had troops and Russian Commandos in the Ukaine. It`s now official to the rest of the world!

The problem and I say that truthfully, because that is the way the world thinks, is that the Ukraine as a country has literally nothing of value (I am not talking about human lives) to offer anybody. Thus no ww3.....it really is that simple. If we let politics be our guide we could almost say that the Ukraine was a pawn of the west, used to poke the bear.... Well pawns have a way falling......there is nothing anybody is going to do militarily to stop Russia. Not even the Ukrainian people can do anything -- unless they want a blood bath -- the peoples blood! <-- fact!
