Didn't the Russians actually start pumping water out of that reservoir pond at one point? It's crazy how many close calls they've had. Glad to hear there is no immediate danger, but with drunk and desperate Russians involved that probably won't last.

Tim Snyder reminding us that Zelenskyy said Putin would do this back in October. I have my doubts the Russians would have ever allowed a monitoring team, but Zelenskyy and his people were right yet again. Ukraine's NATO allies need to respect the Zelenskyy governments track record, give his people more ability and latitude to answer this attack decisively.

Since I'm wishing I'd like to see a small but heavily armed Japanese task force suddenly show up in The Kuriles, do a little house keeping and redecorating. Imagine how that would look to the Russian populace who is still gobsmacked by the Belgorod front. Tokyo should call it a Special Police Action, regarding squatters.

Under the conditions forensic analysis is unlikely to occur, however the following from the NY Times current article on the dam breach makes clear that an internal explosion is the only reasonable cause. Any allegation that the dam breach was caused by missile(s) is preposterous:

"Experts cautioned that the available evidence was very limited, but they said that an internal explosion was the likeliest explanation for the destruction of the dam, a massive structure of steel-reinforced concrete that was completed in 1956. And local residents reported on social media that they heard a huge explosion around the time the dam was breached, at 2:50 a.m.

A blast in an enclosed space, with all of its energy applied against the structure around it, would do the most damage. Even then, the experts said, it would require hundreds of pounds of explosives, at least, to breach the dam. An external detonation by bomb or missile would exert only a fraction of its force against the dam, and would require an explosive many times larger to achieve a similar effect."

Normally I wouldn't post utter tosh like this because it's so vile but being half in the bag helps. Last night I dreamt I was a US drone operator, which would be hilarious if you saw how out of shape I was, on the ground in ukraine and used an eye in the sky to spot out large RU designations and gave the command for ai wingmen to rain hellfire missiles and bombs on them. some time later in the dream it was as if a news report was on in the background whilst still dreaming and it said " European and American officials still don't know how 3600 Russian invaders were instantly killed at the same time"

After this I woke up a short time later needing to hit the john. To say how disappointed I was that it was a mere dream is an understatement. I have not kept up with the war news because as I've said it's quite depressing and seeing the images of children affected gnaws at my emotions.

but heck if any of you lot still work with or in the military, might be nice to give the Ukrainians some nice new secret toys if ya get what I mean.

It's hard to blow up a dam if you are not in control of it. If Ukraine had used artillery or missiles on it I assume that we would have seen some videos of it as it would have to be quite a barrage to take out the dam.
IIRC there were reports about Russia rigging it to explode a while back.

It's also hard to destroy infrastructure in russia if you're not in control of it. I'm not referring to the bullshit drone strikes in moscow. That was a shit false flag. At this point I would be surprised if the Ukrainians haven't turned a fair number of russian soldiers. Or partisans working for the Ukrainians.

The russians blowing up the dam won't make a lick of a difference because nothing they've done has since worked out for them, why would this? The Russians know it'll only slow down the Ukrainians as an inconvenience, but it won't protect their pathetic troops.

All I want for Crimbo is putin's ass being dragged down the streets of moscow with a light pole shoved up his rear.

It buys them time. At least a week, probably more. Resources rerouted to civilian emergency. Ground is going to be muddy and impassable, roads destroyed, etc.

I've not prayed to god in... cobwebs time, but I think I will for incredibly dry hot weather to dry up those grounds and let the Ukrainians pass through and clobber the shit out of the russians. Quite frankly 'm sick of opening up my news app and reading headlines of drone attacks in Ukraine.

For all the division internal rupture and culture war bullshit, the 2016 US elections and elections throughout Europe the past decade+, Russia has instigated, fanning and upright toppled democratic institutions in its quest for power? Hit jobs throughout Europe and GB with zero fucks given. Even fewer fucks given for domestic hits.

Russia is a disease of this planet.

Don't forget the oil pipeline hack a couple years ago. And I think I read something about them infiltrating most American and European power grids recently. May have been China. Another disease on modern civility.

Those are MAGA headlines for MAGA viewers.
Beware snakes in the grass. America has a lot of Orc loyalists and their disinformation can be spread far and wide.
Their goal is to slander Ukraine, to speak ill of them at every turn, and get America to betray EU / NATO / Ukraine all for papa Putin.
Look no further than what Tucker Carlson recently did on Twitter. It is disgusting Russian propaganda.

Shame on the West for not securing our silicon supply chains earlier, and letting AI/ML tech out of the bag. If you think it’s bad now, just wait until China takes Taiwan.
This is how private industry work; imagine congress trying to restrict private industry. While we do restrict export to certain countries there are so many middle men violate these restriction it is hard to track. Not like we can go to Iran and monitor all items entering the country.

I understand that. I also understand that even when we nationalize laboratories like Los Alamos etc. the Chinese and Russians will always find ways to pilfer secrets (industrial espionage etc.)

But it’s impossible to monitor tech export controls when 90% of the silicon is being manufactured a few miles off the coast of China vs. within your own borders.

That's why the infrastructure bill included several billion to build fabs in the usa; so that semi are manufactured domestically. However it will take several years to build them.

The more resolute Ukraine and the west are the less appealing invading Taiwan looks.

Russia kinda fucked their “friend without limits” here.
