Sure,

But I'm starting to accept that Russia probably won't respond how we want to assume they will. I mean, mercs are mercs. It doesn't matter what happens to them. Poland or NATO or US just says fuck it, wipes them out in Belarus, ....I mean, maybe Russians really don't give a fuck? They just think, well, they were losers.

I'm only being half ridiculous...
I hear that, I think if anything Wagner would try something more like the 'little green men' than some legit border incursion. I feel it's likely that Wagner would refuse orders to do a larger border incursion anyway as they aren't stupid - they would know that's suicide.

Like if I were one of them and they told me to go take a few thousand of my friends and go fight the goddamn US army or be killed I would kill the person giving me that order.

The one and only time Wagner went up against the US we dropped the hammer on them and they lost like 100 guys with another 100-200 wounded.

They're not game for a rematch.

Russia-Ukraine War

Putin Ally Wants Gratitude for Not Unleashing Wagner Forces on Europe

The presence of Wagner troops in Belarus has generated major concern among leaders in nearby European nations.
Apparently now the claim is Luka was joking.

Just wanted to add, you yourself may be logical, but not everyone is. So I don't think it's so easy to predict what they would do.

And a major unintended consequence of the protracted nature of Russia’s invasion was to expose how sketchy our munitions supply chain actually was…

If Russia had indeed completed its three-day timeframe for “conquering” Ukraine, the now-glaring resupply issues of a protracted war would still be unseen.

Thx, Russia, for pointing that out for us. 🤪
Yea - there was an article on this issue and while Russia doesn't seem to care (and this was the point of hte article) the China is pissed off about it.

The question is what will happen if Wagner starts operations against Ukraine from within Belarus? Will Ukraine then attack Belarus?
Russia invaded with upwards of 50k troops from Belarus, multiple artillery battalions along with SRBM batteries, dozens of helicopters and fighter air support, and the only notable actions against Belarus or the Russians using Belarus as a staging ground were partisan sabotage of railways (most likely not even Ukrainian, but anti-war Belarussians). Ukraine has gone way out of its way to avoid giving Luka any excuses to bring Belarus into the fight.

It was only a matter of time until Ukraine started hunting Russian shipping.

I was wondering if these attacks could possibly be a response to Putin pulling out of the grain deal and destroying Ukrainian grain handling infrastructure?

More likely it is in response to constant attacks against schools, hospitals and residential buildings in ukraine's cities.

There has been a rash of recruitment centers being firebombed in the past few days, one hell of a story , and just lol.....getting a call from the cops to come burn down a building...

Also on July 31 in Mozhaisk, Tatyana Kholyuseva tried to set fire to the building of the military enlistment office on Frunze Street. She told investigators that she received a call from a man who introduced himself as an employee of Sberbank and said that there was a fraudster in the building of the military recruitment center who was trying to take a loan in her name. Holuseva was offered to set the building on fire to help law enforcement officers apprehend him. The fire was extinguished by the staff of the military commissariat. A criminal case was opened against Holuseva under the article "attempted willful destruction of another's property".

A similar story happened in the town of Rossosh, Voronezh region. Olga Podunova, a teacher, received a phone call informing her that unknown people were trying to steal money from her account. In order to stop the fraudsters, Podunova was supposed to set fire to the building and "smoke out" the intruder, who would then allegedly be detained by the police. As a result, Podunova threw a Molotov cocktail at the door of the regional military enlistment office, after which she was detained.

A military recruitment center in Podolsk, Moscow Region, was tried to be set on fire twice during the day. First, the police detained the manager of the restaurant "Tasty and That's It" (ex-Mcdonalds) Vyacheslav Lychagin. His actions were also coordinated by phone scammers. According to Lychagin, he received a call allegedly from the Central Bank and persuaded him to take a loan, which he sent to the account of the attacker. He was then offered to return the money, but in return they demanded that he set fire to the military recruitment center. According to Kommersant, Lychagin bought five small bottles of nail polish remover and a bottle of Borjomi. He used them to make a Molotov cocktail and threw it at the door of the military commissariat.

Many of those random fires around Russia

... are they just phone scammers?

I mean phone scammers here in the US are one thing, but in Russia they take it to the next level!

Is this just a result of people conditioned to obey secret authoritarian government branches without question?

Woman contacts Wagner fighter in Belarus on dating app. Make of this supposed convo what you will.

Still struggling to understand why people think this is a realistic possibility. Is the idea that Luka and every single member of the Wagner group has taken out a life insurance policy on themselves?

The end result of this if it did happen is completely obvious. Wagner is annihilated and Luka is overthrown.

Again, maybe they would try some sort of little green men thing but even that’s a death warrant. This is clown shit.

The upshot here is that Ukraine can't really conduct American style large scale combined arms assaults without possessing our enormous air power and their troops having just weeks of training at it. Which is not really a gigantic surprise.

It's a little annoying to complain about the speed of advance compared to Kharkiv (which was quite under defended) and Kherson (which actually also took months).

Delays in supplying munitions and equipment to Ukraine allowed Russia to extensively mine and fortify their lines as well which really is the chief problem now.
The lack of weaponry to suppress Russian rotary aviation at their bases, namely precision munitions in the 100-150km range, is also another issue. We would have just said "fuck it" and smoke everything we can find with dozens of TLAM and JASSM regardless of cost. Ukraine doesn't have such luxuries.

what a brilliant strategy. I mean, this is the sort of thing that you can only convince Russians to do....oh and of course Trumpers. They will attack pizza parlors with very little encouragement.
