Russia launched a major offensive on Avdiivka - another one of the defining battles of the war began
Avdiyivka is of strategic importance for the Russian Federation, as this city is actually the gateway to Donetsk - the main communication hub in the occupied territories. And in order to gain a foothold in captured Donbas, Putin needs to move the front line away from Donetsk.
In 2022, Russian troops launched an offensive on Avdiivka, trying to cover the city in depth from both flanks. However, the Russian offensive was stopped due to the heroic resistance of the Ukrainians.
The battle for Avdiivka will be more fierce than the battle for Vugledar in winter.
The densely built-up areas of Donetsk and Yasynuvata contribute to covert operations, the deployment of artillery in residential areas, and the covert operations of armored vehicles. Russia has concentrated a significant air force, which uses high-precision weapons, a large number of projectiles, which could be obtained from North Korea and Iran.
The Russians are trying to create a major advantage in drones. Russian drones, together with artillery, are used to attack forward positions, the enemy is trying to open the way for his infantry and tanks to break through the battle formations of our troops, primarily with the use of a large number of high-precision ammunition.
The main blow comes from the south of Avdiivka. Unlike the first offensive on Avdiivka, which lasted from July 22nd to March 23rd, now the city is planned to be covered in a much shorter arc. But the enemy is trying to avoid fighting in urban areas and create an encirclement threat for our troops in the city.
The situation is very serious, the battle for Avdiivka requires concentration of all resources.
The Defense Forces of Ukraine also have their advantages in this area. We understand well where and how the enemy is going to go. Now these advantages must be implemented. Our artillery and strike drones have many targets.
A very difficult battle began.
This explains the complaints about lack of artillery support form the Ruskies in other areas, they’ve been saving up stocks for this offensive.

Geez, tough to keep up. My Twitter feed has just blown up with postings about the Israel-Hamas conflict.

I've seen some more videos, that I won't post due to graphic nature, from the Avdiivka assault and there are many many Russian KIA.

Unclear if they are actually making any progress but they are certainly spending a lot of resources in the attempt. This area is heavily fortified by the AFU and any tries against it will be quite costly.

Re: Avdiivka
"Reporting from Ukraine" YT channel reported some 8,000 Russian soldiers massed for the assault, along with dozens of tanks, over a hundred APC and artillery pieces. Combined with fighter jets and helicopters. A true full scale assault from Russia.

Last update was that the Ukrainians stomped the clown show.
But with fighting ongoing, who knows what the next assault wave will bring.

That one guy knew what was up - smart move, looks like it may have saved his life.
Russians tend to shoot to kill any retreating soldiers. So maybe, maybe not.
Depends if the blocking units were feeling up to the job that day.

I mean who knows but he didn't get immediately exploded like his buddies. I thought it was interesting though that clearly as soon as he heard the incoming drone he was like 'fuck this' and took off while everyone else figured (apparently incorrectly) that their vehicle would protect them.

Interesting cross pattern, I almost wonder if they just strapped some claymores to the bottom in an X pattern. Might be a little too simple though
Imagine if the Iraqis had those for us 20 years ago, during our occupation.
Next time we try something that stupid, it's going to end very badly for us.

So the Russians were dumb enough to peak out from behind their 1 billion land mines and got whooped again? I am shocked.

Beyond possibly deflecting thrown vodka bottles, what are these things supposed to accomplish?

The theory is that when a top attack weapon like a Javelin comes calling that it will detonate the warhead before it hits the main top armor of the tank. Or when dealing with drones or other loitering munitions that attack the top of a tank. However in practice it really doesn't seem to work very well as intended and certainly makes it more difficult to quickly exit a vehicle when it gets hit. However what Russia is doing isn't that much different from Slat armor that west used in Iraqi and Afghanistan.
