I hope this is not true. But given the desperation that Putin must be feeling...
I really hope the Ukrainians can push them back. I've got a coworker from there, an absolutely exceptional young engineer, joined the US Army to get US citizenship. I feel really bad for him right now and of course the millions I don't personally know.

I also hope the Russian ground troops don't have the resolve to really be barbarians. It doesn't sound like they've been subjected to years of propganda about how evil the Ukrainians are and they aren't attacking people that attacked them. So here's hoping they don't firebomb the cities.

They pulled through another night of Russian attacks.

Russians are desperate, running out of time, ammo, fuel, morale, everything. I fear the thermobaric bombardments are up next. Casualties are going to skyrocket if so.

No way putin lights up Kyiv for all the world to see. No way. There is no upside to that move.

I’d expect a major armor assault first. If that fails I’m concerned the orders might be to essentially raze the city. Doing so will have further unforeseeable consequences.

There is really no upside to what he’s done so far so I would not put it past him. He’s become unmoored to a degree I think.

DO you think he has people in command that would refuse those orders/article "whatever it is in Russia for removing president from power"?

Yes but at least it's reasonable to believe he thought there was going to be an upside and that all this was going to be a lot easier. I don't think the same can be said about a decision to escalate to that point with what he knows now. Assuming he is getting accurate information from his brass.

Probably only if he reached for the nukes. Then he’d catch a bullet.

What I was about to post basically. We're no longer dealing with calm, cool, collected Putin who visits the troops and cares what people think of him.

I really hope I'm wrong, that Putin is willing to keep dashing poorly supplied troops against the ramparts again and again.

How will the world react if he drops a small atom? We prepared for that?
If he uses a tactical nuke everything will hinge on exactly what the environmental consequences are. Not sure how well that can be predicted.

The whole endeavor seemed to hinge on the idea that there would be little to no resistance and he’d be drinking a vodka toast over Zelenskey’s body by now. Which seems a little delusional to me.

If Putin uses a nuke of any size, Russia will be the new North Korea, absolutely cutoff from the rest of the world until Putin and anyone else deemed responsible is dead and gone. Even the Chinese can't abide the use of nuclear weapons.

May seem delusional in hindsight but I'm not aware of any officials claiming they knew things would transpire the way they have. It seems to me that everyone expected Putin to have rolled what he wanted as quickly as we rolled Baghdad.

Take the city by monday, at all cost.
So tomorrow night is gonna be a nailbiter.
Also, a nail biter what he will turn to if the city still stands come monday.

Going to be a hard fight for sure, but I'd say it's going to be a dark time for those tank crews who are taking their armor into a city. Being all confined and easy to sneak up on, with Ukrainian kill teams everywhere? Yeah good luck with that guys.
Looks to be a lot of that going on tonight. They will probably let the tanks into the city and out maneuver them, taking them out one by one.

I don't know about Russia, but as someone of Chinese descent, I can say for certain that the Chinese are still indignant about how almost every major foreign power has abused it while it was weak. This is a major driving force for China. They never want to be in a position where they are humiliated again.
I heard similar to this some years ago, about the Chinese historical mistrust of foreigners and that it was formidable and explains a lot and can't be expected to change any time soon.

For the Repubs who are Trump loyalists and of whom agree with whatever Trump is lauding and gushing over Putin with, I offer you my condolences in the form of a couple of monikers for your Hero Vlad Putin who has been, to your extreme pleasure and enjoyment, making life for our President Biden and the rest of the democracies of the world that you despise a bit more difficult:

I like Vlad the Impaler seeing as if he's committing atrocities "To save Ukraine and Russia from the Nazis" (lol) or more appropriately, Root'in-Toot'in-Shoot'in-Putin, the guy you all hope will prevent Biden from winning a second term by making Biden look weak and undecisive and by having Putin once again provide the Putin Puppet Trump with the many resources at his disposal to help Trump cheat and connive his way to another victory.

i remember those days where Mao Zedong and his cadre branded the western democracies as "Arrogant Decadent Imperialist Hegemonistic Thugs" and pretty much scoffed at that. Looking back at those times, it seems to be an underlayment of the present day Chinese communists who have resisted the many western influences that are obvious in the present day Chinese culture.

Hopefully that human life cost is greater for the invaders than the Ukrainians in Kiev. The way this is playing out it won't be just embarrassment and humiliation for Putin but his Waterloo. Fingers crossed. If Kiev falls, it's tougher, but I still don't see this as anything but a huge lose for Russia going forward.
So what, if they take the city? They expect everyone else to put down arms and surrender? The level of resistance they're getting, gonna continue even after... And sanctions continue, influx of aid and weapons continue.
Keep dragging it out and they will win eventually.
Exactly.

Russian markets will implode on Monday. Young conscripts continue to disappear. Hatred and distrust for Putin is at an all time high. I know this is Russia, but how bad do things have to get before domestic stability becomes an issue?

Russian military did not bring their thermobaric platforms INTO Ukraine for anything less than the conventional version of a nuclear holocaust. Putin wants genocide. Remember, the USSR had no hesitation in purges of its own population. NO ONE should believe the leadership gives two !@#$s about human life if they will not spare their own people.

I honestly think Putin's days as Russian front man are not many at this point. There's no way he can save face (no cosmetic surgeon in Switzerland has that magic). It's over for him.

I guess CNN will be hiring him soon. They need more people calling non Liberals "Russian assets".
So you admit you identify with the conservatives who support Russia and it's actions, as you have just indicated that those conservatives that don't, are considered Liberals in your mind. Well played at demonstrating your stupidity.
