Somebody in that tank forgot to load up on ammo before heading out and was too embarrassed to admit it. I mean, that right there is just as legit as any other reason for why a T-90 cannot beat a Bradley in a face to face duel given how low Putin has to go to put fresh meat out for the Ukrainian troops to dine on. Or maybe, just maybe the Russians are so short on ammo the tank crew was told to go out to the line and try to scare the Ukrainians into surrendering.
It said in the x comment that the 90 got the first shot, it was loaded and fired (hit?) first, just got dusted before it could do anything after apparently.

Reminds me of an elderly friend of mine who passed away quite a few years ago. He was a tank commander in the Korean War. He described to me how he was in a Patton tank when it was repeatedly hit with rounds from an anti-aircraft gun. He said it was like being inside a bell being rung while also being slapped upside the head with a 2x4 over and over again. I had to laugh at that but I also imagined what it would be like if it was me in that tank. No tank you please.

Ukraine interested in the A-10, likely to supplement their worn Su-25 fleet. Obviously they can't loiter over the front line but certainly could be used in low level rocket attacks (including with APKWS) and also as bomb trucks for SDB and JDAM-ER.

Edit: they's also like the AH-1 Cobra. There are a hundred AH-1Ws sitting in the Arizona desert not doing anything we could give them.

And some Blackhawks would be nice. UA could put together an Air Cav Battalion over time.

Yeah, their Mi fleet is only going to last so long. Even if not Blackhawks we have a bunch of surplus Sea Kings.

I can't help but wonder if the current extreme cold front is a Black Swan event for Putin. Something like a million people in Moscow region is without heating atm. And its not just in the Moscow region;
Another heating main gone in Russia, this time in Lipetsk. Russia is falling apart.

Then there is also the Way Back Home movement of the soldiers wives. Seems their gatherings are getting larger and larger and apparently soldiers have told the FSB point blank that they would be leave the front lines and come back home if their wives are arrested.

The wife seen escorted away by police in the video above was apparently released shortly after.

Putin is between a rock and a hard place on this issue of rotation. Simply not enough soldiers and imagine all these soldiers to come home and tell all their friends exactly what is happening on the front lines.

Russia is cracking. Slowly by surely.

Well, they already have at least 3 from the Royal Navy, but more would undoubtedly be helpful:

Do these heating mains have some help in their unscheduled disassemblies?
3 factors from my understanding. Long term neglect (some of the main lines that have broken dates from the mid-70s), lack of skilled workers (some have been drafted, others have gone into the arms industry) and finally, lack of money over the last few years. The war is all, civilian infrastructure is 'unimportant'.

On the notion of a lack of skilled workers. I came across a report of a broken sewer mains in Russia. They can't find the break in the line and its been broken for a week.

A Wildberries (Amazon clone) warehouse burned down in St Petersburg. There are some interesting stories around it. It seems that 'new' Russians are not quite so submissive as standard superior Russians...

Since 2022, Wildberries helped police to mass-arrest employees and forcibly recruit them. They pushed personnel out of the offices and warehouses into streets, where police waited for them, and arrested for the army. It was a well-known practice. Only in September 2022, Wildberries delivered 3,000 slave soldiers to the army, so many, that their warehouse in Koledino, Moscow region, could not function anymore. According to rumours, today's fire in Petersburg was set by employees who were furious about the plans of their slave owners to sell them to the army.
Source

There is a bit of a coverup going on atm by some of the bigwigs;
"It turned out that the warehouse of one of the country's largest marketplaces, which burned down in St. Petersburg on Saturday, was built illegally, the building was not put into operation. "
...
In addition, a source in the Ministry of Emergency Situations said that the warehouse that burned down in Shushary had never been checked by the fire inspectorate."
...
The rescue department suggests that the cause of the fire could be faulty wiring.
Source

The problem with the line that "the building was not put into operation", is that footage from the start of the fire shows large amounts of goods in massive racks and large numbers of staff present;

It became a rather massive fire;

Russia: Wildberries employees burned down the 100,000m² (25 acres) warehouse in Saint Petersburg in response to Putin's fascist raids at the location earlier today
Maybe some Orcs will get to live, if they manage to kill their leaders before their leaders kill them.

Mass conscripting in St Pete’s and Moscow region implies Putin has mostly exhausted the regional ethnic minorities - and is secure or desperate enough to risk unrest at home
I believe they are targeted 'new' Russians... ie recent immigrants, which normal Russians just don't care about. They are also trying to get more prisoners to sign up by turning off the heating in prisons during the current cold snap.

What I think they are doing is trying to survive until after the election in March. When that is done, Putin will do a mobilisation. It will be unpopular, but he will have no other choice if he wants to survive until early next year (possible change over of USA President, and possible change in Ukraine support from the USA).

Its a foolish wish. The Europeans will increasing be self reliant in terms of ammo by 2025. Sweden, Germany, Finland and others will be spitting out large amounts of 155mm shells. The Ukrainians probably won't need the USA by 2025 in terms of material needs, although may still require the intel that the USA can provide.
