Ignoring if there are POWs on board or not it gives insight to the Russian mind.
We lost a plane? No, you lost 60 POWs, haha now our loss is your loss.

This is where the jerkoffs in the House Freedom Caucus think they got Biden trapped in a simmering cauldron and are ready to really turn up the heat to get Biden to convince the Mexicans to pay for the resumption of building Trump's Wall that Trump promised them, while not giving a damn about what they're doing to the Ukrainians and how disgusting they look while they're at it, not that they care....
If it is not nearly as important as democracy in Ukraine just let them have a wall, who gives a crap.

They want to run on the issue not actually do anything about the issue. Except for Trump who wants to put everybody in concentration camps.

Biden should just tell them to go piss up a wall and start reprogramming money on his own. Congressional Rs will scream about it but there is jack they can do.

Whatever. Ukraine is more important. Concede already and stop being stubborn.
Sometimes you have to pick your priorities and you always have time later to ignore their border policy but Ukraine needs more ammo now.

I was never a big fan of this kind of deal because temporary funding for long term policy changes is a shitty exchange and it is clear that nothing would make the Rs cross Trump now even if you gave them everything they asked for.

Biden has a lot of unilateral options he should fully exercise.

Oh well, somehow I don't think it'll work out to Ukraine's advantage without congressional budget approval.

If they can hit that then why is the crimean bridge still standing?

A group of 50 or 100 pound explosives from drones can do a lot of damage to a refinery with lots of readily available fuel to ignite; but won't even scratch a bridge. Need to get up to the 500-1000 pound range per warhead to start talking about seriously impacting a bridge with bombs/missiles.

For comparison, the US harpoon missile has a ~500 pound penetration blast warhead, which is targeted at significantly softer target (ships).

As I've previously mentioned, you give the right wing extremists in the House everything they want, they will keep pressuring for more concessions because it's not at all what they actually wanted to begin with. What they want is to get revenge for Trump's losing his bid for a second term, for the humiliation Trump is suffering from his being held to account for his crimes, and to keep turning the screws on Biden and the Democrats every and any way they can.

Per Trump's instructions, they are delivering payback in his name and you and everyone else with an ounce of common sense knows for a fact that he really is that petty and childishly resentful. There's no way Biden is going to give in to that form of "negotiating" because it will only embolden and affirm to Trump's lackeys in the House that what they're doing to Biden produces the results they're looking for.

They said what they want: a border policy or you won't get funding for Ukraine. You pick that you don't want full congressional funding for Ukraine and that's your right. But I disagree and would rather concede on some policy that I (and many others) do not care one bit about.

Obviously not using my grey matter .
It's not immediately obvious how much tougher a goofy Russian made 4 lane bridge actually is compared to a building or a tank or whatever. When the entire thing is reinforced ablative material it unfortunately doesn't always blow apart like we'd expect in a movie.

A while back Beau made the comment that you usually don't want to destroy a bridge that leads out of Crimea if you plan on invading it later. You want to give the enemy a path out once the invasion starts. If you destroy their only way out then you have to fight a cornered enemy. I'm not a military expert so I have no opinion either way.

I can see his point, the problem is that Russia will likely just block all civilian traffic to keep the civilians in Crimea and use the bridge for military supplies.

Putin doesn't care about Russians in Crimea. He only cares about Crimea. Any civilian deaths in Crimea will be excellent propaganda material for Putin. Both externally and internally.

The Russian soldiers that are left have effectively zero morale. Any such soldiers in Crimea are much more likely to surrender than 'fight like a cornered rat'.

So its much better to neuter all and any supply routes into Crimea and allow civilians to travel through Ukraine controlled routes back to Russia or Ukraine mainland.

Congratulations to Finland!

The European Best Sniper Team Competition pits 45 teams of sharpshooters from many NATO Allies and partners against each other for seven days of gruelling and stressful tests of skill. In 2023, NATO’s newest Ally Finland triumphed. For those familiar with Finnish history, this comes as no surprise.

Apparently it was neck and neck with the snipers from the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division and the Special Operations snipers from Greece.

I think T.S. Lawrence's approach to the railway from Damascus to Medina has applicability to the bridge. The idea wasn't to completely shut down the railway but to bleed the Ottomans by constantly attacking the trains but never to the point that the Ottomans abandoned the line. It kept a lot of Turkish troops occupied to very little advantage.

Russia Issues Ominous Warning to Countries Preparing for War

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov cautioned against countries bracing for a potential war with Russia.

.

So Russia invades Ukraine and expects all of the adjacent nations that aren't puppet states to sit on their asses and enjoy watching the untold thousands of grisly inhumane war crimes the Russians are presently committing in Ukraine? lol

Delirious or delusional, Lavrov speaking on behalf of his whole nation who at this very moment is by their own act of invading Ukraine have left themselves quite vulnerable for being invaded by its NATO adversaries. So it looks as if he is now warning its NATO adversaries not to take advantage of this moment of self-induced vulnerability and to leave Russia alone while it tries to wipe Ukraine off the map.

That's like Trump telling the nation to drop all charges against him because it interferes with his attempts at creating his own cultist authoritarian state or some kind of weird family run dynasty like Kim Jong Un's.
