It's not immediately obvious how much tougher a goofy Russian made 4 lane bridge actually is compared to a building or a tank or whatever. You want to give the enemy a path out once the invasion starts. If you destroy their only way out then you have to fight a cornered enemy. I'm not a military expert so I have no opinion either way.
