Russia doubles down on fascism apparently;
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev asked to give the police the right to suspend monetary transactions and obtain information from banks and mobile operators without a court decision.
...
The Ministry of Internal Affairs also proposes to receive data on citizens’ telephone calls without a court decision. Lawyer Evgeny Smirnov believes that Kolokoltsev’s proposals may contradict the Constitution.

Noone cares Mr Smirnov.

Great, Putin's losing his taste for this conflict. Start pushing, hard.

This will be a a very "successful" buffer zone once UA starts reaching out across the border and completely cutting off all the orcs in occupied Ukrainian territory.

trying to push 90 year-old tanks to the front will be even more hilarious once they can't even cross the mine fields that UA seems to be able to set, between fronts, with impunity.

It's more him admitting they don't have the available resources for a push on Kharkiv unless they pretty much shut down most operations in the east. Also trying to do Bakhmut in Kharkiv likely means the Ukrainians burn Belgorod (and other places) to the ground in revenge. It also risks the US deciding Ukraine can utilize supplied munitions on Russian territory. It's just not a good option.

I think the buffer explanation and sapping AFU resources is the primary goal but if it looked like they could develop more success in the area they would utilize more resources. The battle for Vovchansk already is looking to be quite costly in terms of men and equipment so likely not door #2 for now.

Like most other Russian military claims/declarations, I think this one will also end up as a lot of bluster and false projections of superiority.

I think we know one thing by now.. Putin and Russia won't give up in Ukraine. They're up for a 100 year war.

The only question is.. are we?

I am reaaaly curious if Ukraine stockpiled a lot of these drones or they are producing them at this rate... If the latter, Crimeea has fallen already, it's just a time problem...

That Willy video I shared earlier this morning talks about these drones and Ukraine launched about that many the previous day unless that link is referring to the same event. Willy is reporting that those drones use AI to visually correlate targeting information in accordance to preloaded mapping data so that there need not be connectivity between the drone and home base -- basically. Which is next-level shit. Impressive. In that same video there's also a video of a Ukrainian drone that has a gun, so basically they've got floating guns in the air moving around. Not entirely sure if the drone-gun is actively being utilized in combat, though. Could be a proof-of-concept? Interesting times.

The Ukrainians simply need firepower and lots of it. They'll never be able to contend with Russia's manpower advantage without it and should not be expected to.
They'll need more than that. Ukraine is desperately short of soldiers and instead of stretching the Russians for the 2023 offensive, they've got themselves stretched thin and losing ground.
Zelensky has delayed approving a new conscription law to draft soldiers younger than 27 which is unpopular. Also did not order a new round of conscription which has put Ukraine in a very difficult position now.

They need a counter to these old Soviet-bombs-with-wings-and-guidance glide bombs https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cz5drkr8l1ko
"Russian forces are now using glide bombs to attack the northern city of Kharkiv."

"Vovchansk police chief Oleksii Kharkivsky has seen the impact of glide bombs up close.
'There are no words to describe the aftermath of a glide bomb attack," he says. "You arrive to see people who are lying there, torn apart.'"

“Over the past six months, we were hit by glide bombs quite often, maybe five to 10 bombs per week… but this month we’ve had far more than ever," he said.

"
George Barros from the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) says that while Ukraine’s situation is difficult, another worrying development could be just around the corner.

He notes there is evidence that a factory about 400km (250 miles) east of Moscow is setting up a production line capable of churning out glide bombs weighing more than three tonnes."

"Glide bombs 'are making Ukraine's defensive strategy more difficult because the Russians can just continually bombard fixed positions until they're gone', Prof Bronk says."

So the Motherland can simply turn its significantly smaller neighbour into first one gigantic minefield and now dust since they are aiming these bombs at cities.

UA needs greater capabilities to strike the airfields or planes in flight.

No thanks to Trump and his Freedumb Caucus obstructionists. These traitors have needlessly cost many Ukrainian people's lives. I really do hope history treats these jackasses with extreme prejudice. They deserve to be sent to Ukraine to dig trenches, graves and slit latrines 'til their idol Putin gets handed his ass full of holes and whip marks.

It is extremely difficult to impossible for the Russians to advance much, if at all, when the Ukrainians have sufficient shells/rockets and the tubes to fire them from. They certainly have a manpower problem but the Russians only made progress when the AFU ran short of firepower.
