Justin Bronk of rusi on f-16 in UKR.
the dutch donated f-16 have the upgraded radar of the f-16c/d and missile approach detection/auto-countermeasures pylons. running aim-120b and aim-9m, but capable of 120c and 9x. they are also prepping the systems to be able to use jassm if authorization comes.
the west has lost a lot of its ability to train combat pilots, so there will be a long slow buildup of pilots before they can make a big push.

While maybe western capacity to train pilots is limited the number of Ukrainians who can utilize the training is also limited, or at least was until recently. Every Ukrainian pilot needs to learn English before they can be trained.

I didn't take away from that video that the west lost it's ability to train pilots. There just isn't a lot of extra seats to train pilots in the west.

My understanding is that this is the major bottleneck. Not just the pilots but ground crews as well.

The language barrier has been an overall issue for getting Ukrainians trained up on all manner of western equipment. I would not be surprised to see the Ukrainian government implement compulsory English classes in their education system at some point in the future.

What movies were their kids/teenagers watching???

I would think that a country that didn't really like Russia and was partial to the West, would already have Hollywood movies and TV series running on their entertainment channels.

Unless, they watched dubbed crap. In that case, EXPENSIVE mistake.

I'm sure they have lots of English language media. What was probably lacking was a major motivation to increase proficiency and state support/requirement.

I bet in 10 years it will be a much different story.

Bud it is a matter of time transition. They were extremely russian friendly up to some point in 2014. That's only 10 years ago. I mean really.... Further even after the events of 2014 there was a lot of close personal connections at the family level with families being split between Russia and Ukraine.

Obviously the past 2 years has changed a lot but you can't expect a complete culture change (not just language but other aspects of lives) in 2 years.

A lot of educated people are learning english (esp in tech area) for years but *lot* is a relatively small number of the larger population - worse in the military all the equipment was Russian who knew they would get a huge influx of western equipment in 2020 ?

A story about how the war is changing Ukraine in some ways.
War is shitty and i think a lot of posters forget that; I also think one of the Russians target so many civilians is to encourage Ukraine to settle for less to stop the killing. Russia is a heartless entity and I hope sanctions et all continue way after the war ends and in the end Putin et all suffer a fate worse than death.

First of all would be needed a change in alphabet if they want to break from the russian world. That would signal a deeper change.

Russia planning to strike critical infrastructure in Germany.

Russian drones "Orlan-10" were "circling" over the German nuclear power plant
On August 8, in the industrial zone of Schleswig-Holstein, drones flew at high speed over the territory of the stopped nuclear power plant, LNG terminal and chemical plants.

That would be a positive thing. I'd like to see the chancellor trying to avoid escalation with Russia afterwards 😁

Seems Russia is pulling significant forces from Ukraine to deal with Kursk.

All snagged from this thread. Lets see what happens over the next few days and how Ukraine will exploit this reduction in forces... if true ofcause.

So, they going to put a bunch of troops and equipment all in a nice line for stuff to blow them up?
Heh - don't know mate.

A tinfoil thought occurred to me... Budanov have said that there is a Russian General in the field of Ukraine that is anti-Putin. What if Ukraine initiated the Kursk operation as a way to have significant Russian forces move into Russia under the control of this General? Who would then proceed to follow the main two highways from Kursk to Moscow...

Just a tinfoil thought

Considering how Putin is just as paranoid as any oligarch would be about their personal safety issues, it'd be really difficult to pry him out of whatever nuke proof bunker he's always within ten steps, a bounce and a dive from. But yeah, wouldn't that be nice. I'm thinking a general draft of all of those spoiled brats living off of their apparatchik parents in the cities would be a great time to kick-off a Russian style coup against Putie.

Its only david D that is reporting this news atm... ie massive troop movements out of Ukraine and into Kursk. So maybe he is wrong. But its a nice thought that something might be happened that will at last be evidence that the end might be coming.
