Is there any doubt remaining?

Trump claims Putin invaded Ukraine to rebuild the Soviet Union, which he said was 'full of love'

Business Insider|24 minutes ago
Trump speculated on the reasons for Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and described the repressive Soviet regime in strangely positive terms.

Or, why Biden's victory in 2020 was even more important than it might have seemed. If Trump had won, you can be sure he wouldn't be imposing serious sanctions against Russia or sending Ukraine any aid. It might be a stretch to say Ukraine's survival depended on Trump losing (other countries would have still chipped in), but it certainly stands a better chance because he's not in office.

Some collateral damage to building, but worth it, killing a GRU Spetsnaz team and Captain, now reportedly up to 12 "senior" Russian military leaders killed in the illegal and amoral invasion of Ukraine.

Mostly unrelated, but apparently Putin stole one of Robert Kraft's superbowl rings back in 2013? This is hilarious.

"I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, 'I can kill someone with this ring,'" Kraft said in 2013. "I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out."

"It would really be in the best interest of US-Soviet relations if you meant to give the ring as a present," Kraft said he was told on the White House call in 2005. "I really didn't [want to]. I had an emotional tie to the ring, it has my name on it. I don't want to see it on eBay. There was a pause on the other end of the line, and the voice repeated, 'It would really be in the best interest if you meant to give the ring as a present.'"

"I decided to give him the ring as a symbol of the respect and admiration that I have for the Russian people and the leadership of President Putin," Kraft's 2005 statement said.

"The good news for Kraft is that he's now friends with the president of the United States, which means it might be time to call in a favor: Hey Donald, can you please get my Super Bowl ring back?"

That reads like the Simpsons episode where Mr. Burns gives Castro the trillion dollar bill.

She will surface in two months and deny ever being raped and she has just spend quality time with family off the radar. Also. All Heil Putin.

And on the negative side, direct missile and MLRS strikes into Kyiv proper as at least a few forces have gotten within artillery range recently (random terrorist bombings on civilians, as per standard Russian operating practice, not even pretending to try to target military targets).

Also ships now moving toward Odessa one more time, Russian forces previously reportedly refused to execute an amphibious assault there over a week ago, but they've had time to "encourage" another attempt.

that's going to be a bloodbath worse than the airborne troops that tried to take the airport on day 1

The Ukrainians have had weeks to fortify the city. Tank obstacles everywhere. The beaches are mined. Untold numbers of RPGs, ATGMs and Grads await. Significant air defenses still active. Strong possibility Ukraine has held Neptune anti-ship missiles in reserve for this very moment.

An amphibious op on Odessa unsupported by a land force as was the plan seems like a horrifyingly bad idea.

Very interesting to have 3 prime ministers visit Kyiv today. While exceeding low odds, a random Russian artillery barrage in the wrong civilian area of Kyiv today could lead to a strong casus belli for EU.

I thought this very thing when I first saw this earlier (I'm 5 hours ahead of the US). Then I thought "He wouldn't...can't be that insanely stupid..."

But you never know.

Are people still flocking to Kyiv for shelter? The more I look at the maps, it sure looks like Russia is corralling people into Kyiv. Which given their tactics in Syria/Chechnya really concerns me. Just critical mass of civilian life they don't give a shit about in a congregated area.

Only as a stopover to move further west. Rail service from Kyiv still operational.

Ah, but in yet another PR bid to expand Putin's continued strong support from the insane Trump / Q contingent in the US, don't miss that Hunter Biden was also on the list.

Like those people need a lot of help. Well they do but you know what I mean.

I'm curious to see how Fox News covers the death of one of their own:
--
Fox News says its veteran war photojournalist has been killed reporting in Ukraine

Would not be surprised if Tucker says something like, "We don't know who shot Pierre--was it the Ukrainians? Was he close to uncovering their secret biolabs??"

More likely that he'll just ignore it and continue shilling for Putin though. Real journalists are expendable at Fox.
