Wow. Fucking wow lol.

Putin's exact quote: "It was always our intention to fortify the People's Republics of Donbas and Lughansk before they, too, were taken offline like Joe Rogan."

I am assuming that's the Tweeter's joke, a parody of Putin's bizarre comments comparing Russia to JK Rowling?

(Reminiscent of the days when Stalin justified the Soviet control of half of Europe as a necessary consequence of the West's literary snobbery against his beloved Enid Blyton. Good job there's a preceedent, otherwise one might think politics has gone completely mad these days)

One fascinating point was this major change in strategic direction was presented by the army deputy chief of staff. Not the head of army, not the dictator in chief, not even the army chief of staff. But down to a 3 star deputy.

Normally this should have been presented by Putin or Shoigu, or maybe Gerasimov if Shoigu still having “heart problems”. Going down to Rudoski to give this speech is… quite odd.

Simple. It's a trial balloon-floating a change in policy to see how it washes with the (Russian) public. If the reaction is bad, Putin and the rest disavow the new policy-the speaker was merely expressing his personal opinions and was not speaking for the government. Tried and true practice of politicians everywhere-it's a high art in Washington, DC.

I suspect this policy will stick (Russia has few other options). Russia will rebuild their resources in the east, make it that much harder to take back Crimea and meanwhile periodically keep bombing other Ukraine cities,. Russia hopes that the European alliance will fracture apart over time. Look at us in the US-rising gas prices are a much bigger political issue than Ukraine. We are entering a long phase of this war.

Seven Russian Generals Killed In Ukraine Named: Western Official

By AFP - Agence France Presse
March 25, 2022

Western officials on Friday named seven Russian generals they said had so far been killed, and another who had been sacked, during the war in Ukraine.

The latest to die, Lieutenant General Yakov Rezanstev, was a commander of Russia's 49th Combined Arms Army in its southern military district, an official disclosed.

Meanwhile, Russian Army Commander General Vlaislav Yershov, of the 6th Combined Arms Army, was identified as the general sacked earlier this week by the Kremlin.

It has been reported his abrupt dismissal was due to the heavy losses and strategic failures seen during the Russian military's month-long invasion of its neighbour.

Among the others said to have been killed is General Magomed Tushaev, of the Chechen Special Forces deployed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine.

The number of both rank-and-file Russian troops and senior officers allegedly killed in the month-long war has shocked Western military and security officials.

It has been blamed in part on communications and logistics issues, leading senior officers to use unencrypted channels which has exposed them to Ukrainian forces.

The Kremlin claimed Friday that just over 1,300 military personnel have died in the war, but estimates of four or five times that number are seen as credible in Western capitals.

Officials there believe around 20 of the 115-120 battalion tactical groups deployed by Moscow in Ukraine are "no longer combat effective" due to the losses sustained.

"After a month of operations to have somewhere in the region of perhaps a sixth... of the forces being no longer combat effective -- that's a pretty remarkable set of statistics," the Western official said.

He also claimed the commander of Russia's 37th Motor Rifle Brigade had been killed by his own troops, "as a consequence of the scale of losses that had been taken by his brigade".

"We believe he was killed by his own troops deliberately," the official said, noting he was "run over".

He added it was a further sign of "morale challenges that Russian forces are having".

"They really have found themselves in a hornet's nest and they're suffering really badly," the official said.

General got runned over by the rage troops.

Why so different numbers on troop losses though? This and other articles report under 2,000, while other articles claim over 15,000.

Russian generals are dying in Ukraine partly because they are struggling to get conscripts to follow orders, report says

Business Insider on MSN.com|4 days ago
Ukraine said it killed five Russian generals, prompting analysts to wonder if top officers are taking more risk in hopes of rescuing the invasion.

I see a few articles claiming similar ... taking more risks, getting closer to the lines to motivate the troops .... and similar. But isn't squished brass more likely to de-motivate them? 'If our generals aren't even safe ....' sort of thing?

the cracks are starting to appear?

-
  1. Political analyst Vitaly Tretyakov concluded: “The situation is serious... We have to admit that there was no psychological breakthrough in our operation, where the opposing side would lose their will to resist... The resistance from the Ukrainian side is neither stopping nor weakening.” Tretyakov pointed out that despite the Russian media’s attempted depictions of Zelensky as a drug addict, he is being perceived by the West as a leader of a country that has been attacked. He also questioned the wisdom of “liberating” Ukrainians who don’t seem to want to be “liberated” and vehemently hate seeing the Russian troops on their territory.

  2. After he pointed out that societies tend to get tired of any military campaigns rather quickly, Skabeeva argued, “If you’re tired, that doesn't mean that everyone else is tired.” Visibly angered, she repeatedly shouted at Tretyakov, questioning his support for the Russian military and telling the pundit that his commentary “has a smell of something untoward.”

The low number (<2k) is Kremlin admitted Russian deaths which is purely propaganda, high number (17k) is Ukrainian ministry estimate of Russian deaths which is also possibly propaganda.

Conservative independent estimates by Western military analysts have a very wide range recognizing the large uncertainty (~7k-15k Russian deaths, with a larger number wounded).

No one really knows exactly in reality, but lots of pieces of information that support the higher end figures. Such as one brigade alone reportedly having 50% casualties (or 750 out of 1500), and earlier reports of ~2500 Russian bodies brought back from just one of the three major fronts. And photo evidence documented of over 1000 Russian military vehicles killed or captured so far.

I'm not familiar other than living in California for most all my life, so share a border with Mexico, have never set foot there but I can see it from my brother's balcony in La Mesa, CA.

I have to think this speaks to MASSIVE corruption in Mexico.
But of course it would be a cinch to find six Republican Senators to do the same here.

Probably 60 Representatives would also sign on.

I love it when you regurgitate right-wing talking points as if they are fact. Reminds me of who you really are.

Can you explain what he meant by this statement?

"You’re going to see when you’re there, you’re going to see women, young people standing in the middle, in the front of a damn tank saying I’m not leaving".

Biden talks off the cuff, something I'm sure you're familiar with after Trump. Knowing that his official position is that we are not putting boots on the ground, I can only guess he means either if they choose to go on their own like some already have, or meant figuratively "there" as in watching video from "there."

Now that I've answered your question directly and honestly, do you think you can manage the same? What do you think he meant? Be specific.

As a person who spent most of his career working for an outfit that ensures our nuclear threat is very real and reliable by collecting data on all submarine patrols which are then analyzed by APL at John Hopkins, and instrumented tests of missiles converted to non-nuclear capability, at an enormous expense, I have very serious doubts that Russians have near as much follow-up. I would not be surprised if that number is not far off for them.

I remember very well preparing those after patrol reports every patrol. Then the feedback of what they found wrong and having to explain everything to the Sub Group in a debrief.
