Nah that's all Hollywood and will stay all Hollywood. Can you imagine schlepping around that much steel, that eats that much brass, and needs a car battery connected to do it? That high a rate of fire is a liability if you're not in a vehicle with deep mags. You'd need 5 or 6 Jesse Venturas just to carry the ammo, and it would provide roughly 1-2 min of shooting time.

Closest you can get to that would probably be an Ironman like backpack system but a gun with a much lower rate of fire, something air cooled and recoil operated. Like this 1919 maybe.

That 30mm is just a single shot rifle. Probably like other huge novelty cannons where you have to attach the base of the cartridge to the face of the bolt, then insert both slowly into the chamber. There is a need for anti material rifles, but 30mm seems excessive. I think General Dynamics made a 20 or 25mm one awhile back, 4 round magazine I want to say. More of a proof of concept, I don't think they were ever adopted by any group. Now you can just send a drone and stay far enough away to not die.
I'd love to see a gatling system mounted to a rudimentary exosuit with a few K rounds on a thousand pound backpack. I'm thinking closer to an Aliens m56.

I'm looking at the Polish thing a bit differently....I don't think they are working up a defensive wall.
I think they are.

Just because Putin might be removed and the Russian troops will go home, doesn't mean that Russian dreams of Empire is dead. If another 'Tzar' gets into the top job, but this time has smarter military friends, (Shoigu was a civil engineer) could we see a rebuilt of a Russian far right nationalist coalition that is able to rebuilt their military? It took a mere 20 years for Germany to shake European foundations again after their first loss in WWI. And that time period covers the disastrous Wiemar inflationary period. If Russia is able to sell its gas, oil and coal to China, it will be able to fund a modern rebuilt. Its internal corruption will probably stifle its attempts again, but a strong leader with a few executions could nip that in the bud.

There was also a Polish exercise recently, where Poland modeled how long they could hold out for in case Russia invaded. They lasted 5 days.

'All models are wrong. Some are useful' - George Box... ofcause it seems that everyone's model of the Russian military and their effectiveness were woefully incorrect, but this exercise in 2021 and the fact that Russian leadership seems to have no issues in pursuing military campaigns on Euro soil in the 21st century has lit a fire under the Polish government procurement activities.

Rumour... so take salt... but...

Kupyansk would be the ultimate goal for ensuring the route of Izyum and severing both road and rail lines.
Need a lot of salt to believe the Russian army abandoned a primary supply line to the front lines of Donbass.

Word has it Russia is supposed to have 35-40k troops north and south of that Ukrainian breakout.
Not so certain they'd abandon it without a fight. Waiting for confirmation.

Russians could be letting them form a salient which they'll look to nip at the base.

Always loved how they did that in Aliens, the heavy stuff mounted to a swivel arm like that.

Such a great movie.
Fun fact, those were originally camera mounts, the costume designers just repurposed them as a gun mount, which is pretty brilliant.

I'd only argue against this point, Russia has no negotiating power, and China will likely buy their resources at rock-bottom prices, if only to resell to everyone else. Russia will likely become a vassal state in all but name to China unless they go through sufficient political reform to unlock the rest of the world again.

'Ukraine used at least 6 brigades. One of Territorial Defense and one of National Guard are covering the flanks while in the axis of attack there are 4 professional formations. Two heavy: 93rd Motorized, 3rd Armoured, and two lighter: 25th Airborne and 80th Air Assault.
Width of attack is 5-7km PER BRIDADE(!). Looks like at least 2 (maybe 3) Russian BTGs siezed to exist in the first 24 hours. After that Ukrainians entered into the operational depth and done 40km+. It looks very interesting.
In comparison in Kherson region the width of attack is 20-25km per brigade. With 5km near Isyum that's 3 battalions in the 1st echelon and 2 in 2nd. Basically textbook.
So far all the identified brigades that took part in Kharkiv attack are "core" brigades. Veterans.
Some of them have been rebuilt in almost 20%, but those are simply combat experienced units.
Around 20 battalions crashed into 3-4 Russian batallions, some trash mobilized units and Chechens.
Ukraine attacked with the best they've got. Only reserve unit was 3rd Armoured, and they've been fighting at Seversky Donets since June. It's not a fresh unit.'

- this is from Polish military analyst Jarosław Wolski

Looks like the Kharkiv attack was planned with Kherson as the diversion?

The force down in the Izyum area can't pivot and head north without giving up their positions, they're stuck. So that leaves whatever the Russians can hastily send from the Belgorod direction. It's a lot harder to stop a rout than to prevent one.

Seems to good to be true:

but would explain why the Russians are getting rofl stomped. Everyone is waiting for orders from command, and command no longer exists. Or even better, "russian" command is still issuing orders ...

Newsweek is very unreliable. Wait and see.
