If things keep going the way the way they are, the ghosts of Afghanistan must by now floating about inside Putie's head. The effects of attrition, something that not too long ago appeared to be in Putin's favor seems to have turned Ukraine's way. The aid sent in by the western democracies looks to be monies well spent.....so far.

And then there's China sitting on the fence weighing whether or not to heavily invest in Putin's follies at the risk of being sanctioned by the western democracies. I suppose China could launder their aid through the DPRK but that too could be found out if the volume and regularity is large and long enough.

Umm.... I need an ocean. For the salt. Cause this is insane if true.
Waiting for the other shoe to drop and for the Russian military to do something.

Have seen another claim that Ukrainians have advanced to at least the outskirts of Izyum (specifically Hlynske settlement to the Northwest, within 1km of Izyum). News from Ukraine side is still fairly lagging for op-sec, the real-time news has been more from Russians.

Izyum seems to be coming under pressure from multiple directions now.

That Izyum will fall after just a few days is music to my ears. Ukraine's attack has finally broken Russia's grip.
Now we await the Bear's response.

Taking and holding this new position would greatly weaken Russia's Donbass offensive.

The Ukrainians are also capturing an absolute assload of munitions, equipment, and vehicles based on the pics and video I see. Even if some of it needs repair the Russians can certainly look forward to encountering it on some future battlefield.

Wishful thinking, or actual true report?
Unclear....

Following the St. Petersburg deputies, the Moscow deputies are asking Putin to leave
"Studies show that in countries with regular changes of power, people live better and longer on average than in those where the leader leaves office only with his feet first.

You had good reforms in the first and partly in the second term, but after that everything went awry: the doubling of GDP did not happen, the minimum wage did not increase to the declared indicators, intelligent and able-bodied people are leaving Russia en masse, the promised stability is nowhere near.

The rhetoric you and your subordinates have been using for a long time has been permeated with intolerance and aggression, which in the end effectively pushed our country back into the Cold War era. Russia began to be feared and hated again, we are again threatening the whole world with nuclear weapons.

In connection with the above, we ask: to remove yourself from your position due to the fact that your views, your management model are hopelessly outdated and hinder the development of Russia and its human potential."

While posted as a joke, to me it does raise a real question ... at some point, to realistically make Russia come to the table with any honesty, Ukraine needs to at least threaten to capture significant Russian territory.

Fighting a defensive war, exclusively on your own territory, is basically by definition a losing cause. Even if you "win", you've lost. Particularly with Russia's ongoing scorched-earth tactics which are levelling any cities it can't capture (and repeatedly massacring civilians in the process).

Retaking Kherson, which I assume Ukraine will still accomplish, may be mixed blessing for residents, as retreating Russian army will again undoubtedly loot, murder, and indiscriminately bombard the city as they retreat (if they can retreat).

It would take the Russia decades to replace their vehicle losses if they even had the industrial base to do so (not so much) and unrestricted access to foreign components (not likely anytime soon).

love this. they are now pretty much the "the" of "former glorious slavic empire, left in ruins and now vassal under the shadow of the now dominant capital of 'our culture.'"

this is probably how the following generations will refer to that land.

the Russia.

75,000 carcasses of military vehicles lost, will be sent around Ukraine and even in sympathetic oblast of the Russia, new monuments to the Ukrainian nation and culture; host of EU honorary capital for 2028. Those steel bones will build museums to the last days of Russian international influence and cultural relevance. At least, it does depend on how they handle post-Putin. ...because this stuff is going to be nasty.

I honestly bear no ill-will to the many citizens of that part of the world that pretty much just live in this shit and get on with their lives, for what is about to happen over the next 5+ years as the hemorrhaging just sort of ...keeps on going, most likely. Even the gaslit sockpuppet mafia state employees, like @whyitso that are really enjoying the state of Putin leadership, even up until now.

I don't think there's going to be a lot of friendship between friends in the Russia over the next couple of years, and it's just only going to get more and more....interesting.

God speed, people.
