Moscow’s attempts at a counteroffensive in Donetsk are leading to large casualties, prompting complaints by Russian marines

The lead of this story is Kherson, but there is also a discussion about large Russian casualties in the East.
Well, that's one headline to share.... misleading without more context.
Ukrainians believe Kherson is a trap as Russians dig in, wear civilian clothes, and prepare a heavy artillery line on the left bank of the river.
What the Russians have done is offer the civilians they previously trapped in Kherson, a way out. A potential way to live (in Russia). The rest are at great risk either through neglect or violence.
Russia wants Kherson to be a Ukrainian graveyard one way or another and there is little that can be done about it militarily, the outcome is certain unless Ukraine forfeits the bridgehead and its own survival in the following years. Driving the Orcs from the right bank is not optional. The cost, is that Kherson city will no longer exist.
It is a wonder if anyone still trapped inside will survive what the Russians have planned there.
