Kicking it up a notch:

Security meeting overshadowed by Russia's war, ban on Lavrov

Houston Chronicle|18 minutes ago
Europe's largest security organization, one founded to maintain peace and stability on the continent, opened a meeting Thursday with strong denunciations of Russia's war against Ukraine, a conflict that is among the greatest challenges the body has faced in its nearly half-century of existence.

Russian warship deployment puts Ukraine on high alert; Belarus says army must prepare for 'defense'

CNBC|3 hours ago
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Wednesday night that the country's armed forces are preparing a "countermeasure" to Russia's offensive operations.

US looking to start a large training program in Germany for Ukrainian soldiers.

Good news, I guess, but what took so long?

Just builds onto my feeling we are naively slow walking this, when a more robust response could end the conflict quicker, and probably with less misery, death, destruction and economic damage.

Maybe next year we'll train pilots so they can get old fighter platforms in 2024...

Well, the longer Putins embarrassment is on full display the better odds of actual regime change in Russia. So.

Part of it may be Ukraine's willingness to now to let such a large number of troops come off the line for training. This isn't going to be the basic 5 week course that people who've never held a rifle before are getting in the UK . The program will teach advanced skills to experienced soldiers and probably train more of their people for special operations. Presumably a curriculum needs to be prepared specifically their circumstances.

Which is why Ukraine should be admitted to NATO once the Russians are defeated.

They don't get a second try unless they want to face the full power of western arms.

Their army will be so depleted it will take an enormous investment to reconstitute, so GLWT

Not going to happen per Zelensky.

Russian consent to their NATO membership might be the only possible security guarantee that Ukraine could accept that isn't enough arms to fight a conventional WW3. Putin has broken every agreement he's made over Ukraine so promises from their end aren't worth the paper they're printed on. The only long term solution is the certainty of further aggression being met with overwhelming firepower.

Putin does not actually care about NATO on Russia's border. Its been there for two decades and his response to Finland/Sweden joining was basically "meh". His only real concerns are the maintenance and re-expansion of the Russian sphere through whatever means necessary.

Apparantly, outright Russian popular support for the Special Operation has crashed to 25% - I wonder why?

In the month of November,Ukrainian forces liberated 3850 sq km of occupied territory.

Meanwhile in Bakhmut. life goes on no matter what. Slava Ukraini! these people undefeatable!

I've seen videos and pictures, after Russian artillery and Air strikes,an old woman come into the street with a bullet proof vest and helmet on,and start sweeping up.....I kid you not.

Yesterday,about 10km South of Bakhmut,at a place called Kurdyumivka.

A small group of Ukrainian soldiers was completely surrounded.

They was offered the chance to surrender...I don't think so.
They fought their way out.

Slava Ukraini.

Meanwhile

Russia is currently firing missiles at Belgorod, Russia.(yep, you read that right).

They are also shooting them down with their Air Defence Systems.

This is apparently an attempt at restoring the support of the invasion.

Fuckin idiots!!!!!

Slava Ukraini.

Do you only get your news from western sources? How about venturing outside the western news bubble and see what the rest of the world is saying?

But it has nothing to do with looting another country’s resources right?

I love how you complain about people listening to western news sources and then uncritically parrot the statements of the Syrian government.

How about American sources? This is when politicians say the quiet part out loud.

Bottom line, we are in Syria, illegally. Regardless whether or not we are plundering their natural resources, we’re unwanted guests. Guess it’s OK when we invade.

Feel bad for these guys, STALKER is one of my all-time favorite games.

STALKER Cosplayers Killed After Russia Allegedly Mistakes Them For Ukraine Spies (gamerant.com)

Of course, the FSB tried to play it off as them stopping a Ukrainian Special Forces attack during the Yerevan summit.

According to the state-sanctioned account, the counter-intelligence operation resulted in three SBU casualties who were plotting an attack on regional energy infrastructure from a house in Voronezh. But The Moscow Times promptly claimed it has identified two of the three deceased as airsoft players who, while not sympathetic to Vladimir Putin's incumbent government, were merely cosplayers who'd occasionally dress up as Stalkers from the titular video game series,

Guess they ran into some trigger happy, rear guard types; shoot first and ask questions later.

In unrelated news, the costume competition at St PetersCon 2023 has been cancelled.

This is an extension of Trump saying the US should have stolen Iraq's oil. Total nonsense from an idiot and a liar.

If you think Syria is bad you're going to be outraged when you hear about what Russia's doing in Ukraine.

If there's one thing I know we can trust it's in your unimpeachable personal integrity so I'm sure that if you're mad about the US in Syria you will be far harsher in your condemnation of Russia.

...right?

Nobody cares about fascist resentment or any other Russian drama. The only Allied solution is total Russian military defeat and a UN Trusteeship of the Russian state with hard policies on re humanizing Russians and strategic democratic values and reform. The road to this solution is taking the war to Moscow. Stopping at the pre existing borders provides the fascists with time to renew and reassert Russian hegemony and guarantees a further conflict .
Russian militarism must be destroyed completely then political reform introduced and sustained from within Moscow, the source of all these problems.Obviously the same rational shapes the demand for reparations. No Russian admin will pay them so there too, its on to Moscow. People do not want to hear it but reaching pre-extisting borders is not the end to warfare only the beginning of the end. There is lots more killing to be suffered for a lasting peace. Deny it and be fooled again but there is no other formula to reparations , Putin and cohorts on trial and achieving a permanent military peace.

Good luck doing any of that while Russia still has a nuclear arsenal, Russian land will not be touched by the Western allies so long as it's maintained.

I can see this conflict "ending" like the North/South Korean war. Maybe in 12-24 months a full DMZ is setup and Russia ends up like North Korea.

One of the few advantages I see in going slow, but overall I don't think time is on anyone's side but the Russians.

War fatigue and the end of freely flowing resources will eventually arise. You already see it with the gop taking the US House and vowing to stop supporting Ukraine.

Stalemate benefits Putin. Only defeat and loser stink will get the other power players to risk an overthrow IMO.

Any amount of critical thinking would have you realize the amounts they would make off stolen oil would be overshadowed by the cost of maintaining a force there and supporting the forces there.

Maybe. Problem is eastern Ukraine is where the vast majority of its natural resources are. And now you see why Putin is doubling down on eastern Ukraine.
