So let me get this straight. Russia is supposed to fully withdraw, then peace talks can happen?
Yes.

That’s not how wars end buddy.
I'm not your buddy, pal.

Either somebody wins or the talks happen during the conflict.
Oh my, yes! Who can forget that iconic newsreel of Roosevelt visiting Hitler in the Fuhrer Bunker! Or MacArthur on his charm offensive with Tojo. They rode ponies around the Imperial Palace with the Emperor and then compared medals. Guess who had more? Go on, guess!

If I break into your house and steal your TV it seems terribly unfair and warlike of you to insist I return the property I stole before we discuss what else you might give me.

Clearly I just don't understand how these things work.

We really need a rule that members must be actual humans. This experiment in allowing insects to join just isn’t working out. How the human world works is too complex for a young grasshopper to grasp.

Well, to be fair, he is green.

What is the point of talking to Russia if Russia has already withdrawn? Totally pointless. Just more BS from Biden. This is his way is saying we have no interest in peace since we love endless wars.

BTW no one here is blaming the victims. The victims are regular Ukrainians who are caught up in a game of chess between NATO and Russia. The real aggressors here are NATO, and the Ukrainian government for deciding to be puppets for the west. Russia made it clear for several years NATO arms on their borders was a national security threat. We’ve invaded several countries using that same reason you know like Afghanistan/Iraq/Syria/Libya, etc…and the west just ignored it. And now here we are.

Uh, you just blamed the victim - and then said no one here is blaming the victim. I realize that you are probably a troll, still, have you ever taken a cognitive function test??

Moving on... Well, the US has invaded a bunch of countries so, I guess it's okay if Russia does?? FWIW - Afghanistan deserved it, Iraq didn't (thank you Donald Rumsfeld), we didn't invade Syria (the Syrian's weren't the target, ISIL was) and we didn't invade Libya, we just bombed the hell out of them (which was pretty dumb). Our stupidity doesn't justify Russia's stupidity, or their extreme short sightedness, or their total lack of self awareness vis-a-vis their actual readiness. Lastly, we fought in Korea - who helped the North fight against us? We fought in Vietnam - who helped the NVA fight against us? It's not like this sort of thing is lacking precedence. Commies helped support communist revolutions, Democracies help support fledgling democracies. The world is messy - Duh.

What you don't seem to understand is that Russia started a land war in Europe. In Europe! If you understand the history of Europe, you would understand why this is beyond stupid and not tolerable. That the US would sit around and watch this happen with no intervention whatsoever is folly (the Brits got this right away as well). After some delay, the rest of NATO realized what was happening and is stepping up.

Poor Russia, they stepped in the doggie doo doo and are looking around for someone else to blame. Sucks being them. I'll play a funeral dirge on their behalf.

Biden: When you pull out of Ukraine we can talk.

Putin: Ok we will withdraw.

*Putin withdraws*

Biden: Sorry we were lying when we said we would talk. Now that you’re gone, we can fortify the areas you have left and ensure you don’t come back again.

LMAO. Good one. That’s not how wars end buddy. Either somebody wins or the talks happen during the conflict.

"Wins during the conflict"

What does that mean exactly for Ukraine? Capture of Moscow?

What exactly are you advocating here? Invasion of Russia?

Otherwise wars end when one side is done getting it's ass kicked and the other is tired of killing.

I don't think Ukraine will get tired of killing Russians on its lands.

Imagine if Iran got a new sane government and its oil was allowed to flood the markets. Putin would be most unhappy.

Sounds good to me.

Exterminate the orcs until either the Orcs decide to withdraw, or there are no more Orcs.

While either option is acceptable, I would prefer the first. But if the Orcs insist, the second will work also.

How long would I have to say you’re a threat to justify coming over and kicking the shit out of you and taking your stuff?

Certain nations and groups in the west are pushing for peace at any cost.

If they are pandered to, then Russia will rearm and be back in a few years time when western support for Ukraine simply won't be as strong.

The bottom line is that any ceasefire will result in defacto Russian control of that part of Ukraine for ever.

The attitude of the MAGA wing of the Republican party is of most concern as support for Ukraine is the cheapest way possible to degrade and defeat a possible enemy.

France (Macron) gives fuck all support to Ukraine - and is still pushing for a cheese eating solution, though Germany is finally starting to deliver at a decent rate.

Hungary would rather Russia won so is delaying Scandinavian admittance to NATO and is delaying EU funding for Ukraine till its funds are unblocked.

When will people understand that Putin will only negotiate if he is losing badly and will delay /obstruct any process to give him time to go again?

It's all a bit depressing.

More funding and more weapons to Ukraine are the only routes to get a working peace!

Mysteriously so, it was never revealed who tripped/shoved him. I guess Putin doesn't go anywhere near a window in his palace so a flight of stairs was the only alternative. Nice try though. And then there's the fact that Putin is a Judo expert that knows how to take a fall so it supports the idea that he was being assisted in the effort.

And then there's the other reliably sourced unsubstantiated rumor where people are saying that Putin tripped over some semi-solid stool that mysteriously got placed on one of the stairsteps, leading to the conclusion that he shat himself first and then slipped, rattled and rolled down the stairwell unloading his colon all the way down, with a big splash at the impact zone.

My totally unfounded take is that this is pure Ukrainian agitprop.

^^ I've said that several times now. China could basically waltz in at will. Annex the whole thing like RU did in '14. But they need to forget about that little speck off shore.

I have to question the legality of seizing the cargo. I understand that the US is in cahoots with the Sauds in their brutal war against the people of Yemen but that doesn’t make high seas piracy legal.

These goods are almost certainly subject to a variety of sanctions. That said:

Yeah, thought passed through my mind as well. I think the US considers this an extention of the original agreement with the Yemeni Navy to interdict Iranian supplied arms. That was made with the former government of course [edit: See K1052's post above]. As an aside - not very thrilled that Iran intervened in a civil war in Yemen, using it as a proxy against SA and Oman who had long ties with Yemen. I know that you would prefer to see the House of Saud barbecued over and open pit - deservedly so. Obviously, they have lots of oil and are useful to our government in stomping on Iran anyway we can get away with. So, we just keep dancing with the one we brought.

Just another day in the paradise that is the ME.
