It really is the absolute best the insect can do.
I mean it passed right through the assumed “Id rather be a Russian filter” - Ignoring that he is not supposed to *actually* be a comrade.
I am not backing Ukraine in a boolean construct means he is admitting to backing Russia… Like we’ve been saying - and he has been denying. Good job Yuri.

At the moment I'm all over the place politically, but my roots are conservative. I am completely disappointed and disheartened that conservatives in America seem to be supporting Russia or at least opposing the support we are providing Ukraine. The only reason seems to be "Biden supports Ukraine so therefore it must be evil". Conservatives have abandoned any consistency in their political ideology and have replaced it with "anything opposite to the democrats no matter fucking what". Sometimes both teams can win together, and I think support of Ukraine is this win-win no matter which team you are on.

I keep coming back to it, but it's all too true at the moment: David Frum noted that many conservatives faced with losing the vote aren't abandoning conservatism, they're abandoning democracy.

American politics have reached a turning point where 'classic' social conservatism is becoming ineffective as a draw. The country is increasingly secular, pro-LGBT, pro-choice and culturally diverse. It's difficult to pitch the "rah rah Christian theocracy" mindset to someone with a Pride pin on their jacket and a Darwin sticker on their car. And without that clear difference, Republicans have a tougher sell if they want to rely solely on policy — fiscal conservatism and foreign policy changes aren't big hooks.

Hence the current scenario. The Republicans lean on purely contrarian stances because they can fire up the base without relying as much on their old tools (though the hatred for drag queens and transgender people is still alive). They oppose support for Ukraine because they can use the stance as a replacement for the anti-choice or anti-gay-marriage wedge issues they'd have used in the past.

Reminiscent visions of Russian troops and hardware tail-tucking their way out of Afghanistan must be dancing in Putin's nightly nightmares. Let's hope the same result happens in Ukraine with the difference being Putin's troops are being relentlessly pounded by western democracy's finest munitions expertly delivered by Ukraine's hero warriors as a reminder to never step over the border with Ukraine again, unless it's to pay for reparations of course.

Beau posted this yesterday

The half life of a radioactive bomb would be about 30 years.

USSR brokeup in 1991. We're 32 years after that.

With tons of corruption.. I too think the situation could be as comical as:

Not betting money on it though!

Nope. They are complicit in genocide until they band together to launch a rebellion and overthrow Putin. No sympathy from me for them.

If I were being sent for slaughter by my commander, I would take him with me.
One person can be smart, groups of people are dumb.
One person can exhibit the unpredictable, groups of people are predictable as fuck.
Point I am making is this, if you take 100 human beings, subject them to x, y, z stimulus/input and you are always gonna get action/result p. Always p. It could be you and me in that group.

Russia has been gearing up for false flags the last couple of days I understand... To do what in "retaliation" is the question? Belarus? Nerve gas? shrugs.

Putin fucks himself again when he calls this yet another incident of terrorism. He’s been crying wolf about terrorism the whole war, and now when something happens that if true is legitimately terrorism he’s got nowhere to escalate to. He’s been taking supposed terrorism like a bitch the last year. Even if it’s some lone wolf far right nuts hosing down civilians he’s going to get no traction due to his own BS.

So true, although here in this forum, I like it a lot because of the many level headed intelligent members like yourself are found within that contribute solid factual information as individuals. If there is any group think in here, it's built on the truths and facts of the issue at hand and absolutely not on some silly conspiracy theories and blatant lies that attracts other people whose existence for all practical purpose depend on it in other forums.

While we never know what cards the Ukrainians are holding, it seems pretty clear that the battle for Bakhmut is now over and they need to GTFO. They lost both flanks and there's not much left of the rear. And Russian control continues to expand beyond the city.

It is frankly crazy how Russia has been fighting furiously for seven months and has captured almost nothing despite horrifying losses. The gains are so small they can barely be seen on a map.

It's been clear for a while the Ukrainian strategy has been to bleed them here as much as possible for as long as possible, which I think could be considered successful. They'll likely have to pull out soon-ish unless they are generating a counter attack on the Russian flanks as they try to close. Also from the Ukrainian perspective only ruining one small city is much better than subjecting larger Kramatorsk and Slovyansk to the same fate as the front shifts.

I find it more than a little strange that on the cusp of an apparent encirclement not only does Russia pause, but they beg the defenders to withdraw to Ukrainian held territory. Is their ability to fight THAT low? They can't complete and hold an encirclement of one relatively small city?

Penetrating behind entrenched cities to cut them off is a thing you want to do, and they're willing to hand away the main benefit of being able to capture the defenders with minimal fighting when they run out of supplies.
